Buddy Boy was adopted!

‼️URGENT‼️

👉 For the most up-to-date notes, please check the bio located in the comments.👈

ACCT has a large dog rescue incentive going for dogs over 40lbs tagged by January 28th, and Buddy Boy is eligible! He will have a grant of $750 go to the rescue partner that takes him.

Buddy Boy ACCT-A-153193 is currently considered urgent and at risk of euthanasia due to length of stay and lack of space for incoming dogs. Buddy Boy must have confirmed placement with a RESCUE PARTNER, FOSTER, or ADOPTER by THURSDAY, JANUARY 22ND at 10AM. Should Buddy Boy’s medical or behavioral status change, his urgency and timeline for placement may also change.

At just three years old, Buddy Boy has been surrendered to ACCT Philly three times when his owners’ circumstances changed. Every home described him as a loving dog who is crate trained, loves squeaky toys, and is good with strangers, children, and dogs.

Buddy Boy is a joyful, social, and toy-loving dog who thrives on engagement and activity. He greets people with wagging tails, soft eyes, and full-body excitement, and he loves nothing more than toys, play, and time with his handlers. He is very trainable, food motivated, and responsive to redirection, though he can become jumpy and pushy when aroused, so he is looking for a home without children. Buddy Boy does best with clear expectations, consistency, and an active home who can help him channel his energy appropriately. He has met many other dogs during his shelter stays and most recently was nervous and unsure when in a playgroup shortly after being surrendered. Due to his length of stay, Buddy Boy is urgently seeking placement with a rescue partner, foster, or adopter.

Per volunteer 1/3/25: Medium energy. Very good boy. Hungry!

Per volunteer 1/1/25: Medium energy. Good boy.

Per staff 12/31/25:
Kennel Presentation: At the front of the kennel, jumping in excitement to go out. Ears forward, soft eyes and tail mid wagging.
Leash Skills: A little difficult to leash due to the jumping. pulls mildly on the leash.
Sociability: Very social. Snatchy when taking treats even with an open palm, best to drop them.
Play: Loved ripping up the stuffy toys and intense with the toys. Was able to distract from toy with high value treats.
Dog Interaction: Was in PG
Return to Kennel: Went right into the kennel and unleashed without issue.
Color Level: Blue

Playgroup 12/31/25: Fence greeting his ears were to the side with a mid wagging tail. Steerable with the water and shake can. He was unsure in the yard, was more of a fun police and did some over correction when Ernest was trying to play.

Per volunteer 12/30/25: Medium energy. Sweet, happy, friendly.

Per staff 12/29/25, intake exam: Bright, alert, and responsive. Ate all the treats given to him through the PE + did vaccines with food but did have to restrain after the first vaccine poke once he started to move away from the food distraction, ears were back the entire time he was in intake + low tail wags, allowed me + the ACA to rub him throughout his body but would pull back a little bit when you went to touch around his head area.

Per owner surrender notes 12/29/25: “He’s lovable, playful, social, loves walks, playing other animals.” Mostly housetrained. Crate trained. High energy. No behavioral concerns. Knows sit and stay. Pulls sometimes on leash. Likes squeaky toys and bones. Playful with strangers, children, and dogs. Don’t know how he is with children. Ideal home would be “Someone who is patient, loving, loves an active dog.”

Per staff 6/1/24: Buddy Boy - was jumping up to come outside of his kennel and he was pretty excited to go outside. He does pull strongly on the leash, but I think after he gets his energy out, he is much more manageable. He found a loose toy in the yard as we were walking and immediately started to play with it. He is so cute. He starts to throw the toys to himself and then goes to retrieve them. Loves squeaky toys and stuffies, and is very playful. Very trainable too! He immediately sat when I asked him too and took a treat nicely. Allows handling all over.

Per volunteer 5/31/24: Was jumping up to come outside of his kennel and he was pretty excited to go outside.

Per staff 5/30/24: Love this boy!!! He is so friendly and wiggly. Loves squeaker toys and loves pets. He pulls a bit on leash but seems to take correction well. Takes treats eagerly so open palm hand would be best! He easily leashes and goes right back into kennel with ease. He's a good good boy.

Per staff 5/28/24, vet exam: Excitable, jumpy, allowed restraint and all handling

Per staff 5/25/24:
Kennel Presentation: Aroused. Buddy Boy was very excited to go out! He greeted with soft eyes and a wagging tail. When the handler opened the door he jumped up and pushed the door hard, trying to get out. The handler was able to keep him contained and leash him easily, and he came right out.
Leash Skills: Pulls Moderately On Leash
Sociability: Aroused/Allows all handling. When we got to the eval room Buddy Boy started seeking out toys right away. He's very playful and high energy! He showed that he knows some tricks like "sit" and "catch", but does get a little impatient for treats and will jump for them! He allowed all handling but wouldn't stay still and was pretty aroused throughout. He allowed some all over pets but was more interested in toys and play than pets and cuddles. Overall, a very active, high energy guy that just wants to have fun!
Play: Aroused. Gets aroused and hyped up easily with play and toys. Gets pretty jumpy.
Toys: Accepts a trade. LOVES toys, especially stuffed toys. Likes to grab and shake. Gets aroused and hyped easily with play and toys. Accepts a trade pretty easily for treats.
Color Level: Blue
Notes: Very aroused and high energy pup. Loves toys and play but gets jumpy and pushy, 15+.

Per owner surrender notes 5/24/24: I have a baby and he tends to run away good dog. He’s a good dog super friendly. Crate trained. High energy. Mostly housetrained but some accidents. High energy. No behavior problems just needs more training. Knows yes, sit, cage, go, play. Pulls on leash. Likes squeaky toys. Playful with strangers, cats, and dogs, super playful with children. Ideal home would be someone who has the time to take care of him.

Per staff conversation with owner 5/24/24: Wants to surrender the dog as he ran away 3 weeks ago, just found him. Says it's too much. Has a new baby at home.

Playgroup 12/30/23: Rough/Rowdy. Humpy at times, but able to be redirected. Takes correction well from other dogs. Buddy was also very responsive to human requests for redirection. He did well with several different males.

Playgroup 12/26/23: Play Style: Rough/Rowdy Category: Social/Selective Notes: High energy, playful, once male came into play yard Buddy became stiff and had conflict with Gambit. Was redirected with shake can/spray bottle.

Per staff 12/26/23: Buddy seems to get in a conflict with another large male dog every time he is in playgroup. He does great with the females but has had several issues with other male dogs on separate occasions (different male dogs). He seems to do okay with other submissive/smaller males.

Playgroup 12/16/23: Buddy was a playgroup rockstar! He played appropriately and welcomed all dogs nicely. He had a rough and rowdy play style and enjoyed romping around.

Per staff 12/13/23:
Kennel Presentation: Easy to leash. Buddy was standing at the front of his kennel loose and wiggly, and stayed at the front while he was easily leashed. Exited without issue.
Leash Skills: Pulls Strongly On Leash
Sociability: Aroused/Allows all handling. Buddy is very high energy. He came in the eval room and ran around a bit, approaching me with full body wiggles and a fast mid-high level wagging tail. He leaned in for butt scratches, then threw himself on top of me while I sat down. He climbed all over my lap and was jumping all over me. He did not calm down easily, and I had to stand up so he'd stop ramming into me. When I sat back down and ignored him he sat at my feet and started shrieking at me. He is quite demanding and does not enjoy being ignored. When I stood up he began mouthing at my hands. He was easily redirected when I turned away from him but continued to be quite jumpy. When another handler came in he greeted them with wiggles but again was very jumpy and a bit mouthy. No interest in treats
Play: Aroused. Jumpy and mouthy -does self soothe with toys at times
Toys: Accepts a trade
Color Level: Blue
Recommendations: Gen behavior and no kids due to arousal. Experienced fosters.

Per staff 12/13/23: When I approached Buddy's kennel, He was standing on his bed looking at me. He would only walk around in a circle then back on the bed looking at me.

Per staff 12/13/23: Buddy attended play group on 12/12 and was described as being social, high energy, playful, and minorly obnoxious.

Per owner surrender notes 12/9/23: Surrendered because “he is too much”. He is “a big bady he is very loveing. Buddy gets win things are not going hes way.” Fully housebroken. Cate trained. High energy. “He don't listen. Buddy is good. He wants to play all the time.” “He rip all hes toy up.” With strangers, “Buddy wants everybody to pet him.” He is ok with kids. He is “not good at all” with cats. He thinks it’s “play time all the time” with other dogs. Anything we should know: “Buddy needs a please run. And to play he needs a strong trainer. He is happy day he needs a lot of love.”

Per staff conversation with owner 12/4/23: The dog pulls too much and she is elderly so she can't hold on and provide the proper care for him. Her daughter's dog but she passed away recently and she just cant manage the dog anymore.

MEDICAL:

William Osler, often referred to as the father of modern medicine, believed in the importance of educating patients on prevention rather than simply treating symptoms. His famous quote, "One of the first duties of the physician is to educate the masses not to take medicine," serves as a reminder that true health lies in prevention and lifestyle changes rather than relying on medication alone.

This perspective calls for a shift in how we view healthcare. Instead of seeking quick fixes for health problems, Osler advocated for a focus on building healthy habits through diet, exercise, and mental well-being. In today's world, where prescription medication is often over-prescribed, we need to pay attention to preventative health measures to avoid long-term reliance on medication.

Osler’s words still resonate today, encouraging us to take charge of our health and make mindful choices that benefit our long-term well-being. Rather than seeing health as something that can be treated by doctors alone, we should view it as an ongoing journey where prevention and education are just as important as treatment. 💊🌿

FYI- This is why I don’t post pics of my family on Facebook. I just got a really abusive message with name calling on my feed. Hopefully this person is blocked now. Interestingly she didn’t have any posts, but did have a list of friends that might have been excized from my contacts. I don’t know her. Facebook is not the safest place to be so I don’t go on it or even read it much anymore. I doubt this person is real, maybe someone made up. Anyway be aware.
