Today we honored Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and the legacy of service, unity, and love in action.

“Life’s most persistent and urgent question is: What are you doing for others?” — Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

At Meadowood, it was “Bring Your Kids to Work Day.” Our campus was filled with intergenerational fun and purpose. Residents, team members, and their children teamed up for a scavenger hunt, shared games and activities, and finished the day making blankets together as a hands-on service project.

Today is a special day as it brings together our extended families and reminds us that this is what community is all about.

The start of a new year invites us to pause, remembering the moments that mattered most and the people who made them special.

At Meadowood, the spirit of gathering has deep roots. Before there were neighborhoods, walking paths and shared traditions, there was a house, now our Heritage Center, where Meadowood’s earliest conversations took place and a vision became a plan.

As we settle into 2026, we’re grateful for the strength of community, then and now, and the many friendships that make Meadowood feel like home.

Here’s to a bright year ahead, and to the stories that brought us here.

🎨Tomorrow is the last day to see our December Artist of the Month - Lois Schlacter in the Community Center!

Lois describes each painting as “an intrinsic part of myself… a glimpse into my soul and a part of my being.” With a love of bold color, classical rhythm, and abstract expressionism, her work is vibrant, thoughtful, and completely one-of-a-kind.

With a career spanning more than fifty years and training from the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts and the University of the Arts, Lois now focuses on creating pieces meant to be “lived with, loved and enjoyed” in everyday homes.

❄️🎄Despite the chilly 20-degree weather, the amazing Meadowood team just warmed everyone’s hearts with our annual holiday parade! This year’s theme, “Mele Kalikimaka,” brought a little island cheer as staff paraded through the property, spreading Christmas joy to all. A huge thank you to everyone who made the day so special, especially Santa, Mrs. Claus, and all the hula-dancing stars of the show!

A special thank you to Anne Hilton, a Docent at the Barnes Foundation, for presenting a virtual tour of Henri Rousseau: A Painter’s Secrets to a packed house of Meadowood residents and Club members.

Anne captivated the room as she shared the life and works of the French painter, including newly discovered hidden layers beneath some of Rousseau’s celebrated paintings.

The exhibition includes 60 works of his art, including world-famous pieces such as The Sleeping Gypsy and The Snake Charmer, on loan from MOMA and the Musee d'Orsay. The Barnes Foundation has the world's largest collection of Rousseau's paintings, and thirteen of its works, including Unpleasant Surprise, are included in the exhibition, which is on view through February 22, 2026.

Thank you to the MRA Lecture Series committee for hosting a wonderful program.
