Anesthesiologists are highly trained physicians with more than a decade of rigorous education and training. Dr. Anoop Chhina is the Anesthesiology Residency Program Director at Henry Ford Health and has dedicated her career to advancing medical education and quality assurance.



She is an expert in medical education research and a pioneer in resident skills training. Through virtual and augmented reality and point-of-care ultrasound modules, her residents receive hands-on training, becoming better prepared for emerging clinical tools and procedures.

Anesthesiologists are working to push medicine forward through groundbreaking and revolutionary advances. Michael Burns, PhD, MD, is an Assistant Professor of Anesthesiology and Director of Informatics and Data Analytics at the University of Michigan Medical School.

Dr. Burns also serves as the Associate Chief Medical Informatics Officer of Artificial Intelligence at Michigan Medicine and as Chair of the Clinical Intelligence Committee (CIC), providing governance and strategy to support safe development and use of AI tools for clinical operations and clinical decision systems, including prediction models, machine learning models, and artificial intelligence algorithms.

This week, we honor a medical specialty built on innovation, precision, and an unwavering commitment to patient safety. Dr. John Mitchell is the Vice Chair for Academic Affairs in the Department of Anesthesiology, Pain Management and Perioperative Medicine at Henry Ford Health.

Dr. Mitchell is an expert in medical simulation and co-developed a course for U.S. military members to learn to use portable ultrasound devices the size of cell phones to make critical medical decisions in combat.
