50 for 50!

Throwback to when Michigan State University and the National Alliance on Mental Illness Lansing joined forces to bring awareness to mental health.

The two groups held an event in October on MSU’s campus to bridge the gap between researchers, and people living with mental health conditions.

It allowed the community and mental health experts to come together and brainstorm what they would want mental health support in America to look like.

The tragedy in Delta Township involving Alexandar Lamar Banks is heartbreaking. A family was forever changed, and a 3-year-old child lost their life. My heart is with everyone impacted.

While we don’t know the circumstances surrounding this case, moments like this often raise questions about mental health, especially when behaviors appear extreme or disconnected from reality. If you are a family member who is concerned about a loved one experiencing unusual behaviors, paranoia, or distorted thinking, please do not wait.

Families do not have to navigate concerns about psychosis or serious mental illness alone. Early support, education, and connection to services can make a critical difference.

At the same time, we must be careful not to speculate or assume causes before facts are known. Tragedies like this remind us how important it is to strengthen access to mental health care, crisis response, and family education in our communities.
