People in rural areas often live in reproductive health care deserts, meaning they'd need to drive potentially hundreds of miles to reach a health center that provides abortion. That means likely missing at least a day of work and losing income; paying for gas, food, lodging — and, for many, the cost of child care. Medication abortion can help people living in rural areas get abortion care without these barriers.

Mifepristone, commonly used for medication abortion, is essential health care. Period.

"Those of us fighting for reproductive justice in the United States must continue to speak about these connections and the fact that abortion law can and will be wielded as a weapon against anyone with capacity for pregnancy, whether they are already pregnant, seeking pregnancy, carrying a doomed pregnancy, or even dying from a pregnancy."

People who very much want to become pregnant could soon find their right to procreate restricted by criminal anti-abortion laws protecting embryos.

“Being asked to disclose where they live, their age, their marital status, and why they are seeking care, knowing that this information will be shared with the state, could further deter people from seeking care and insert more fear into what may already be a very difficult situation." – Dr. Kate Starr, Interim Chief Medical Officer at Planned Parenthood of Michigan

The House Health Policy Committee heard testimony on Wednesday on a package of bills that seeks to introduce reporting requirements for abortions that providers would have to meet. “These bills would bring Michigan in line with most of the other states and with the data that is currently being col...

We fight because we believe that everyone — no matter who they are, where they live, or how much money they have — deserves access to the health care they need. We also believe that decisions about your body should be made between you and your health care provider.

If you agree, you should check out our next volunteer orientation to get started as a PPAM volunteer! Visit PPMl.org/vol-now or click the link in our bio to register!

“I think we need to think very carefully in the level of information we are collecting, the level of patient and provider privacy protections that are included in that, and who is holding and administering that data.

“When our patients come to us seeking medical care, they’re looking for information about their options, they’re looking for compassion, they’re not looking to be interrogated about their marital status." – Ashlea Phenicie, Chief External Affairs Officer at Planned Parenthood Advocates of Michigan

Michigan bills to have the state track abortion data again are scheduled for a state House committee hearing today. Colin Jackson has more.

The Supreme Court has declined to take up a case challenging Obergefell v. Hodges — the landmark 2015 ruling that made marriage equality the law of the land. That means, for now, love wins again and marriage equality remains intact across the country! ✨

While we celebrate this moment, we must also remain vigilant. The rights of LGBTQ+ people are still under attack in legislatures and courts nationwide, and every victory is a reminder that progress only holds when we protect it. 🏳️‍🌈

The announcement came Monday morning.

Today marks three years since Michiganders turned out in record numbers to say YES on Prop 3, enshrining the right to reproductive freedom in our state constitution and sending a clear message: everyone deserves the power to make decisions about their own bodies, lives, and futures. 🌟

Since then, its protections have proven invaluable. While other states rushed to ban abortion, Prop 3 provided Michigan with the framework needed to expand access by passing the Reproductive Health Act in 2023. Now, as anti-abortion politicians in Washington try to strip funding, threaten mifepristone, and undermine family planning programs, Prop 3 continues to safeguard our most fundamental freedoms.

We remain eternally grateful to every volunteer, supporter, community partner, and voter who helped pass Prop 3. But a right without access is meaningless, so we must continue to show up to defend the reproductive freedom we fought so hard to protect. Learn how you can join the fight at PPMI.org/act.

A federal court has ordered the USDA to issue full SNAP benefits by Friday, November 7, and MDHHS says payments will begin as soon as funds are received.

This ruling is a victory, but it's still unclear when this overdue relief will arrive for the 1.4 million Michiganders and 42 million Americans who rely on SNAP to feed their families. And as the government shutdown drags on, uncertainty about future SNAP benefit payments continues to grow.

The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services has directed its SNAP EBT vendor to begin issuing full benefits to recipients as soon as funding is received from the federal government.

Yesterday, voters across the country sent a unified message of rejection to the Trump administration's cruel agenda. In every corner of the nation, from city councils to governors, voters said yes to candidates who are ready to fight to protect their communities' fundamental freedoms.

Congratulations to our champions! We are grateful for your commitment to protecting access to sexual and reproductive health care in Michigan. 🩷
