Tsao said the increase in ticks and Lyme disease should not scare anyone from enjoying the outdoors, but it’s important to know where to look and how to keep yourself safe.

If you see a tick, whether it bit you or not, you should hold onto it, take a picture, and report it to the health department.

Rotavirus, a seasonal virus similar to influenza, has been rising across the U.S. since January. With infection rates higher now than this time last year, doctors have fresh concerns that declining vaccinations could lead to more severe illness and a higher surge in the coming years.

Rotavirus is highly contagious, fast-moving and especially dangerous for babies and young children. Doctors worry declining vaccination rates could lead to more hospitalizations.

This week, eight MIAAP members joined nearly 400 other AAP members and visited Washington DC to advocate for child health with the American Academy of Pediatrics during AAP Advocacy Conference 2026. Our members were able to meet with staff in the offices of Senators Peters and Slotkin, as well as with the staff from offices representing Michigan Districts 04, 05, 06, 08, and 11. Some members ended their day with a meeting with Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib (MI-12) who expressed excitement for our Chapter's presence on the Hill!

For the third week of March, federal data shows that 7.5% of tests were positive for RSV — significantly higher than the 5% test positivity rate at this time last year and even lower rates from the few years before that.

Respiratory syncytial virus is continuing to spread later into the spring than usual, driving most states to extend the window for RSV immunizations for eligible infants and toddlers.
