“We call on the CDC to stop wasting government resources to amplify false claims that sow doubt in one of the best tools we have to keep children healthy and thriving: routine immunizations,” said AAP President Susan J. Kressly, M.D., FAAP. “The American Academy of Pediatrics stands with members of the autism community who have asked for support in stopping this rumor from spreading any further.”

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has updated its website to include false claims linking vaccines and autism, prompting a swift rebuke from the AAP and other medical experts.

The good news: Early analysis shows that this season’s flu shots offer some protection against being hospitalized with this variant, especially for kids.

The United States may be heading into its second severe flu season in a row, driven by a mutated strain called subclade K that’s behind early surges in the United Kingdom, Canada and Japan.

The AAP has released a call to action regarding SNAP benefits.

SNAP is a children's health program. In fact, SNAP helps to feed about 16 million children - making up about 40% of the program's participants. Studies show that SNAP participation reduces food insecurity by as much as 30 percent and is even more effective among children and those facing very low food security.

The Academy has been advocating with Congress and the Administration and working closely with its state chapters to push for continued SNAP benefits during the government shutdown.

Now is the time for lawmakers to hear from you. Tell your lawmakers why SNAP is vital to children in your state, and that benefits must be provided in November. AAP members can find talking points on AAP's website after logging in.
