Thank you, Sen. Stephanie Chang, for your support and leadership with the introduction of Senate Bill 914, the copay accumulator bill, which would allow Michiganders to receive the full cost-saving benefits of copay assistance programs!

Let’s break it down. The state has committed to $3.40/hour in wage increases for direct care workers over several years. The total cost of that commitment is about $563 million. The Governor’s FY27 budget proposes just $258 million. That leaves a $305 million gap—and someone has to absorb that difference.

Millions of people with disabilities rely on Medicaid home and community-based services (HCBS) to live in their homes and be part of their communities. These services help pay for direct support professionals, daily care, and the support people need to live healthy lives in their own communities.

But after the biggest Medicaid cuts in history last year, many states are now struggling to make up for lost funding, which could mean longer waiting lists and less access to these critical services. And now, Congress is considering more cuts!

Tell Congress to protect HCBS. Click the link in the comments to take action now!

This year, we’re celebrating something special — 75 years of The Arc Michigan.

For generations, families, self-advocates, and supporters have come together to build a movement rooted in dignity, inclusion, and belonging. What started as a call for something better has grown into decades of advocacy that continue to shape lives across Michigan.

Throughout this anniversary year, we’ll be sharing stories, milestones, and voices that reflect the impact of this work — and the importance of continuing it.

Because while we celebrate how far we’ve come, we know the work is not finished.

🎥 Take a moment to watch this short video and join us as we kick off a year of reflection, connection, and action.

Myth or Fact? AT is only for school or work.
🚫 Myth!
Assistive Technology is for every part of life, not just the classroom or the office. AT supports people at home, in their community, at their favorite hobbies, and everywhere in between.

Whether it's a smart home device that helps you control your environment, an adaptive fishing rod that gets you back on the water, or a communication device that helps you connect with loved ones, AT is about living, not just working or learning.

Check out the MATP Website to learn about different types of AT: https://mi-at.org/at-highlights/

Have you heard of the Michigan Assistive Technology Program (MATP)?

MATP helps people with disabilities of all ages access tools and devices that make everyday life and community participation easier. Think of them as your guide to trying assistive technology in the places you actually live.

How MATP Helps:
• Free demonstrations
• Device loans
• Statewide support
• By people with disabilities, for people with disabilities: MATP staff use assistive technology themselves, so they know what works.
• Guided by the Assistive Technology Act: MATP programs are designed to increase access, choice, and independence for people with disabilities.

MATP does not sell devices nor promote one device over another. Their focus is on helping you explore options, try them out, and make informed decisions.
