It’s World Music Therapy Week! 🎶

🌍✨ World Music Therapy Week 2026 starts today!

From 10 to 15 April, the global music therapy community comes together to mark World Music Therapy Week: a time dedicated to advocacy, awareness and sharing the value of music therapy worldwide.

This year’s theme, “Connecting Borders: Creating Networks and Enhancing Identities through Music Therapy”, highlights how the profession fosters connections across cultures, strengthens networks and supports identities through meaningful musical experiences.

The theme also aligns with the 18th World Congress of Music Therapy - Connecting Borders, the leading international event in the field, taking place this July in Bologna, Italy 🇮🇹🌐

📣 We invite professionals, students and supporters to take part by sharing their work, projects and experiences from their communities.

Ohio University needs your help!!

As you may have heard, the state of Ohio recently passed a bill that requires all undergraduate programs who have seen an average of fewer than 5 graduates over the last 3 years to be “sunset”… which means they teach out the remaining students but cannot accept new students and Ohio University’s Music Therapy program has fallen under this category. This program is in their 75th year, as we just celebrated at Conference! It’s hard to find someone in the GLR community and beyond that doesn’t have a tie to Ohio University, whether it be a student, intern, family member, therapist, or colleague! 🐾💚

Despite the faculty submitting a waiver to be exempt from this due to the complexities of the graduation and internship timeline, the state has denied the waiver without any explanation. There is an advocacy group formed involving alumni, faculty & friends of the program and they have created this petition as a first step toward fighting back against the state. If you would like to read more about the issue and support their program and advocacy efforts, please read more in this petition and add your name to the list to encourage the state to reconsider the denial.

Discover the World Music Therapy Week Toolkit 2026 🌍✨

World Music Therapy Week (April 10–15) is a global initiative dedicated to raising awareness of the impact of music therapy on health and well-being. To support this celebration, the WFMT Public Relations Commission has created a toolkit filled with ready-to-use materials, educational resources, and new contributions.

This year’s toolkit features a special focus on the theme “Connecting Borders”:

🔷 Selected Free Access Literature (Council Members)
offering fresh perspectives and deeper insight into the field.
