Hello Fellow Music Therapists and Community Supporters:
URGENT: Help Protect Access to Music Therapy in Indiana!
Your voice is needed NOW to ensure that individuals who depend on music therapy continue to receive the support they need. There is a proposal to limit allowable hours for Music Therapy to just 6 hours per month. This would significantly restrict opportunities for individuals to participate in community-based events, join music therapy groups, and receive person-centered care.
Why This Matters:
Capping the music therapy budget may restrict individual choice, limit access to needed services, and reduce opportunities for community integration.
Such limits undermine the person-centered planning process, which is designed to tailor supports to each individual’s unique needs and goals.
Your Opportunity to Make a Difference:
Public notice and comment occur prior to submitting amendments to Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), ensuring everyone can share thoughts, concerns, or questions about the proposed amendments. See proposed amendments here: https://www.in.gov/fssa/ddrs/ddrs-policies/ddrs-draft-policies-for-public-comment/
The public comment period is open from July 9 through August 8, 2025, with a projected effective date for these amendments of December 2025.
