This Black History Month, we are highlighting Black pioneers, clinicians, researchers, and advocates whose contributions have shaped the field of mental health. Throughout February, we are sharing spotlights on individuals whose work advanced research, improved treatment, and helped move mental health care toward greater equity and understanding.

This Black History Month, we honor Bebe Moore Campbell — an author, journalist, and mental health advocate who worked tirelessly to reduce stigma surrounding mental illness in Black communities.

She co-founded NAMI–Urban Los Angeles to improve access to culturally responsive mental health education and support. In recognition of her lasting impact, Congress designated Bebe Moore Campbell National Minority Mental Health Awareness Month in her honor. Her legacy continues to inspire conversations about mental health, hope, and healing.

We celebrate Bebe Moore Campbell and the lasting impact of her work and we remain committed to advancing equitable, evidence-based mental health care for all.

Today is Random Acts of Kindness Day ✨
In a world where you can be anything, be kind.

Kindness matters more than we realize, especially for mental health. A small act, a kind word, or simply listening can help someone feel seen, supported, and a little less alone.

Remember that kindness counts when it is directed inward too. Be gentle with yourself today. 💙

This Black History Month, we honor Dr. Dexter R. Voisin, Ph.D., MSW, LCSW — a social work scientist and professor whose research focuses on how interpersonal, community, and structural violence impact the mental health of racialized youth.

Dr. Voisin’s work highlights resilience, protective factors, and evidence-based interventions that support healing and positive development. His widely cited research has helped shape cross-disciplinary understanding of trauma and informs practices that promote equity and improved mental health outcomes.

We celebrate Dr. Voisin and the lasting impact of his work and we remain committed to advancing equitable, evidence-based mental health care for all.

This Black History Month, we are highlighting Black pioneers, clinicians, researchers, and advocates whose contributions have shaped the field of mental health. Throughout February, we will be sharing spotlights on individuals whose work advanced research, improved treatment, and helped move mental health care toward greater equity and understanding.

This Black History Month, we honor Dr. Solomon Carter Fuller (1872–1953), the first Black psychiatrist in the United States and a true pioneer in mental health.

Dr. Fuller was a groundbreaking physician, neuropathologist, and researcher whose early work helped advance understanding of Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia. At a time when opportunities for Black physicians were severely limited, he built a legacy of scientific excellence and dedication to patient care.

His contributions helped shape modern psychiatry and opened doors for future generations of Black clinicians and researchers.

We celebrate Dr. Fuller and the lasting impact of his work and we remain committed to advancing equitable, evidence-based mental health care for all.
