Some of the foods we give our children every day can quietly influence their health over time.
This is not about labeling foods as “bad.” It is about understanding how frequent intake of certain options may affect energy, focus, and overall well-being.
Guidance from the AAP emphasizes limiting added sugars and highly processed foods as part of a balanced diet for children. Common everyday foods to be mindful of include:
• Juice and sugary drinks, even those labeled as natural
• Packaged snacks like chips, cookies, and crackers
• Breakfast cereals high in added sugar
• Processed meats such as hot dogs and deli meats
• Fast food as a regular routine
These foods can be included occasionally, but they should not make up the foundation of a child’s daily nutrition.
The focus should be on consistent, balanced meals with whole foods that support growth and development.
Small, intentional changes in daily habits can make a meaningful difference over time.
