Beginning Monday, Feb. 9, our three freestanding emergency rooms — ER South, ER Saunders and ER Wright Ranch — all services of Doctors Hospital, will offer outpatient X-rays and CT scans.

January is National Blood Donor Month.

Doctors Hospital is partnering with South Texas Blood & Tissue to host a blood drive on Friday, Feb. 20, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The bloodmobile will be parked on the north side of the hospital.

It’s always a pleasure to take part in student career day. Yelitza Hernandez Soto, director of pharmacy, recently participated in the Hector J. Garcia Early College High School “What the Future Holds” Career Day Exposition. The event is designed to give students in grades 9 through 12 insight into a variety of career paths. We’re grateful for the opportunity to help inspire and guide the next generation. It was especially meaningful for our pharmacy director to be joined by her twin daughters as well.

The recognition is based on a rating system that emphasizes healthcare quality measures, including patient outcomes, hospital best practices, value and patient experience. DHL was one of 13 hospitals in Texas to receive an overall rating of five stars.

Introduced in 2026, the Forbes Top Hospitals list helps consumers identify U.S. acute care hospitals that consistently deliver strong quality and value. The rating system uses independently validated measures from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services’ Provider Data Catalog, assessing hospitals on patient outcomes, best practices, value and patient experience.

“We are honored to be recognized as a 2026 Top Hospital by Forbes,” Doctors Hospital of Laredo CEO Andrew Wilson said. “This distinction reflects the dedication and expertise of our entire care team, who strive daily to provide exceptional, patient-centered care. Doctors Hospital of Laredo is proud to welcome Carter Shilling of The Woodlands, Texas, as its new director of Ancillary Services. Shilling will oversee the Food and Nutrition Services and Environmental Services departments.

He earned a Bachelor of Science in leadership and public health and was named to the Dean’s Honor Roll in May 2023 at Texas A&M University in College Station, Texas. He went on to complete a Master of Science in health care administration from Trinity University in San Antonio in December 2025.

Shilling recently served as an administrative resident in Los Angeles, where he gained hands-on experience in health care administration. During his residency, he rotated through executive, operational and clinical departments and collaborated with leaders to implement strategic initiatives across the hospital.

Doctors Hospital of Laredo welcomes Carter to the community and the team. We are excited to have him on board and look forward to the great work he will accomplish.

The Heart and Vascular Center at Doctors Hospital provides expert care for patients experiencing heart attack, heart disease, and other cardiac conditions. The hospital recently invested $2.7 million to expand and remodel its advanced cardiac surgical suite, which is dedicated exclusively to open-heart procedures. In 2016, surgeons performed the 100th open heart surgery at Doctors Hospital.
