Should you get a COVID-19 vaccination this year? The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention strongly recommends a vaccination for everyone who is eligible. COVID-19 vaccines can significantly reduce the risk of severe illness, hospitalization, and even death. In addition, vaccines lower the likelihood of spreading the virus to others, and they protect against emerging variants.
While it’s possible to still get COVID-19 with a vaccination, the course of illness often is milder. Vaccinations remain the best strategy to protect you and your community.

Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) is a progressive condition that impairs lung function and overall health. Research shows that proactive self-management can reduce exacerbations and enhance quality of life.
Some effective strategies include getting annual flu shots and pneumococcal vaccines to reduce the risk of respiratory infections. Adhering to medication usage, such as using inhalers correctly, can prevent exacerbations and hospitalizations. Lifestyle adjustments also can help reduce flare-ups, such as quitting smoking, avoiding air pollutants, and pacing physical activities. In addition, supervised rehabilitation, exercise, and education programs can help improve endurance and lung capacity.
Recognizing the early warning signs of exacerbations enables timely intervention, helping individuals maintain independence and manage COPD effectively.
