Yesterday, Sunstar Paramedics employees were recognized by HCA St. Petersburg for their professionalism, compassion, and exceptional patient care. 👏

Paramedic James Strobel and EMT Joel Oviedo were acknowledged for their prompt response and selflessness. After completing a prior call, they paused briefly to reset—only to immediately step in when a patient required an urgent transfer for emergency surgery. 🏥⚡ Their quick action and dedication truly made a difference.

Paramedic Joseph Butler was recognized for his consistent excellence in care, positive attitude, and professionalism. Joe continually ensures his patients receive the highest level of care possible and sets an outstanding example for those around him. 💪💙

While our teams deliver exceptional care every day and night, we are especially proud of Paramedic James Strobel, EMT Joel Oviedo (not pictured), and Paramedic Joseph Butler (not pictured) for exemplifying our values of attention to human needs and partnership.

Thank you to HCA St. Petersburg for recognizing our teams and for your continued partnership in caring for our shared community. 🤝🏽💙

✨ STAT call. Surprise delivery. Perfect outcome. ✨

What started as a routine critical care transport to a facility with OB services quickly turned into something unforgettable this morning. With lightning-fast progression, this sweet mom delivered her baby in the parking lot—right in the back of our critical care truck.

RN Lorena, EMT Darlene, and PMD C’ara rose to the moment with calm, skill, and teamwork—safely delivering and thoroughly assessing both mom and baby. Together, they welcomed a perfect and healthy baby girl into the world.

Both mom and baby are doing great and soaking in those very first, magical moments together! We couldn’t be more proud of this crew and the incredible care they provide.

Sometimes plans change, but excellence never does.

Way to go, team!

🎉 This week, Sunstar Paramedics was honored by HCA Largo for a job exceptionally well done! 🚑

Paramedic Donald Staley, Paramedic Morgan Bishop, and EMT Adison Klamontree alongside our partners at Largo Fire Rescue 🚒 responded to a patient experiencing stroke-like symptoms.

Our crews promptly initiated Advanced Life Support care, activated the Stroke Alert protocol ⏱️, accurately documented the time of onset, and ensured a safe and efficient transport to HCA Largo 🏥. Thanks to the seamless teamwork between prehospital providers and hospital staff, the patient received emergent care for a large vessel occlusion and is expected to make an excellent recovery 🙌.

We were proud to be recognized with HCA Largo’s first-ever challenge coin. A true symbol of teamwork and collaboration across our EMS system. Thank you to HCA Largo for the recognition, and outstanding work to our Sunstar team and Largo Fire Rescue for their continued commitment to caring for our community ❤️👏.

Sunstar Paramedics hosted an incredible two-day IBSC course on December 3rd & 4th! 🚁
This advanced-level program provided 16 hours of CEUs designed for clinicians who hold — or are preparing to earn elite certifications like CCP-C and FP-C. Over the two days, participants dove into high-level education covering stroke emergencies, pediatrics, trauma, toxicology, flight physiology, and so much more.

We were honored to welcome an amazing lineup of guest speakers who shared their expertise and strengthened our commitment to evidence-based critical care. Your time, passion, and collaboration made this course truly exceptional.

A huge thank you to all the clinicians who attended from Sunstar Paramedics, Palm Harbor Fire Rescue, Clearwater Fire & Rescue, Pinellas Suncoast, and St. Petersburg Fire Rescue. Your dedication to advancing your practice and elevating patient care is what drives our EMS community forward.

A special thank you to the following: Lindsay Douthitt and Hurby Gibbs from NSH, Erika Douglass from HCA Largo, Sarah Webb from JHAC, Sean Davenport from PCEMS, James La Femina from Bayflight/Air Methods, Dr. Morgan Uebelacker from PCEMS, Dr. Kelsey Hundley from Med-Trans, Jim Marshall from Sunstar, and Dr. Andrew Smith from PCEMS

The wonders of knowledge, excellent care, and hard work.

On November 26, 2025, Sunstar team members were invited by our EMS partner, St. Petersburg Fire Rescue, to reunite with a patient who made a remarkable recovery.

On the day of the incident, the patient suffered a cardiac arrest, when both the heart and breathing stopped. Thanks to the quick response and precise care of the Firefighter/Paramedics on scene, the patient was stabilized enough to receive continued care from PM Caileen Lane and EMT Alex Shelton. With efficient on-scene time and rapid transport to definitive care, the patient was delivered to a local facility where they received critical inpatient treatment.

In this rare and extraordinary situation, the patient was discharged directly from the ICU to home, a testament to the professionalism and skill of everyone involved.

Congratulations to St. Petersburg Fire Rescue, Sunstar Paramedics PM Caileen Lane, and EMT Alex Shelton on a job exceptionally well done. And to the patient, we truly appreciate seeing your smile today. 💙🚑

On November 4th, our incredible Clinical Team kicked off this year’s first Triad of Life class at St. Petersburg High School!

A group of dedicated health education students received
hands-on training in three life-saving skills:

✅ Bystander CPR
✅ Bleeding Control
✅ Narcan Administration

Next up, these students will be coached on how to confidently present these skills to an audience, empowering them to teach their peers and spread vital knowledge throughout their school community.

We’re proud to support the next generation of health leaders and educators!

🚑 Crew Recognition & Community Partnership 🤝

Before the sun even rose, Pinellas County EMS received a call for help — someone was without a pulse and not breathing. Responding to the call were Paramedic James Strobel and EMT Joel Oviedo, working alongside St. Petersburg Fire Rescue and Lealman Fire Rescue.

Upon arrival, they found the patient already in the care of an off-duty Registered Nurse who had performed over 1,000 chest compressions, keeping the odds of survival at its peak. With continued Basic and Advanced Life Support measures, the patient was transported to HCA Florida Northside Hospital for further care.

Thanks to the teamwork and dedication of everyone involved — from the bystander nurse to EMS, fire rescue, and hospital staff — the patient made a full recovery. 💙

On October 29th, 2025, we came together to celebrate life and the strength of our Chain of Survival. There were smiles, tears, and a shared reminder of why Pinellas County is such a special place to live, work, and receive care in an emergency.

👏 Thank you to our community partners, and congratulations to Paramedic James Strobel and EMT Joel Oviedo — we’re incredibly proud of your dedication and compassion!
