I observed a training for a device, and I feel I need to share my experience for learning purposes.

As professionals in aesthetics, we all know that many devices require proper protocols — gloves, conductive gel, applicator brushes, pads, and straps that come into contact with the client’s skin. Hygiene and sanitation should always be a top priority.

Unfortunately, what I witnessed was extremely concerning. I was told that the same pair of gloves could be used more than once if I reused it inside out, the brush used to apply gel was simply wiped with a towel with no sterilization or proper disinfection process, the patches were placed back on the plastic and reused on another person without cleaning, and the straps were removed from one patient and immediately placed on the next.

I spoke up and expressed that these practices were not only unsanitary but unacceptable. The response I received blew out my mind. "They didn't have the money to waste".

Cross-contamination is very serious. We are not only speaking about the client’s safety, but also the provider’s.

I left very upset. After many years in this industry, I have never seen something handled this way. Our clients trust us with their skin and their health, and that trust should never be taken lightly.

This experience reminded me why integrity, sanitation, and proper protocols matter so much in our profession. Clients deserve safe, ethical, and professional care—always.

Please never, ever - ever jeopardize your license. If an individual can't invest money on the most important basics, then they should not have a business; and a licensed esthetician should run away as fast as possible from a place with that type of mentality.

As estheticians, our license is more than a piece of paper — it represents our integrity, education, and dedication to safe, ethical skincare. Every client who trusts us deserves honesty, professionalism, and respect.

Protect your license by standing firm in your values. Never allow a doctor, supervisor, or anyone else to pressure you into performing a service or procedure that violates state regulations or your professional boundaries. It’s better to say “no” and protect your career than to say “yes” and risk everything you’ve worked for.

Your license is your responsibility. Guard it with pride, practice with purpose, and always let ethics guide your hands and heart.
