Meet Miss Maggie Mittens, heartworm survivor!
Maggie was adopted from a rescue in 2023 after giving birth to a healthy litter of puppies. Maggie was given a clean bill of health, including a negative heartworm test, prior to her adoption. Unfortunately at her yearly exam in 2024, Maggie tested positive and was diagnosed with heartworm disease; we suspect she was infected prior to her adoption with the microfilariae too young to yield a positive test at that time. After undergoing treatment in 2024, Maggie is happy, healthy, and heartworm negative!
Thanks to annual testing, we were able to detect Maggie's heartworm disease in time to provide effective treatment. Maggie is sure to stay up to date on her monthly oral heartworm prevention to minimize risk of reinfection and encourages you to do the same!
