New research suggests that pink noise — a sound often used in sleep machines because it mimics calming natural sounds — may actually reduce sleep quality by disrupting REM sleep, the stage linked to memory, learning, and emotional balance.

A recent study suggests that pink noise may interfere with REM sleep nd reduce overall sleep quality. The researchers say that using earplugs may be a safer alternative to pink noise.
