🦋 Psilocybin Therapy State Series 🦋

This weeks focus: Massachusetts

Back in 2024, Massachusetts voters rejected a ballot measure that would have broadly legalized psychedelics (including psilocybin), as well as home cultivation of psilocybin mushrooms.

After voters rejected full legalization in 2024, lawmakers are now moving in a different direction: focusing on regulated medical use instead.

A few days ago, legislators approved and advanced multiple bills to create state-run pilot programs for psychedelic therapy.
These programs would allow eligible patients to access psilocybin in controlled clinical settings.

Right now, there isn’t just one bill, there are competing/parallel proposals:
• One bill would create a Department of Public Health–run pilot program
• Another would allow licensed mental health facilities to administer psilocybin

There’s also discussion about expanding beyond psilocybin to include other psychedelics like ibogaine, especially for opioid addiction treatment.
