Happy World Breastfeeding Week!

Observed during the first week of August, World Breastfeeding Week kicks off National Breastfeeding Month and is a time to celebrate all forms of human milk feeding and the resilience of communities in New Mexico.

Here at NMBTF, we know that creating sustainable support systems helps to remove barriers to lactation. World Breastfeeding Week, in conjunction with National Breastfeeding Month, provides vital education and advocacy to help build a landscape of support for babies and families. We can't wait to spend this month celebrating with our chapters and other community partners! Keep an eye on our social media for information about events happening across the state, learn more about National Breastfeeding Month, and find ways to celebrate at https://breastfeedingnm.org/events-meetings/national-breastfeeding-month2025/!

Susie Arredondo is a nurse whose dedication to her community goes far beyond the walls of a hospital. For eight years, Susie has served as a child passenger safety technician, ensuring families have access to proper car seat restraints and the knowledge to keep their children safe. She brought car seat distribution into her workplace and earned recognition from Safer New Mexico for her unwavering commitment to families in Southern New Mexico.

Susie's compassion extends to the most vulnerable. As part of the New Mexico Breastfeeding Taskforce, she helped create comfort kits for families displaced by fires and floods, ensuring parents had essentials to nourish their infants. She has also led breastfeeding support groups, offering education and encouragement.

Susie understands that nursing isn’t confined to clinical settings—it’s about meeting people where they are. Through advocacy, education, and service, she embodies the heart of nursing, blending expertise with deep compassion to strengthen her community.

Please help us congratulate this years' honoree of the Community Service Award of Distinction, Susie Arredondo from the Early Childhood Education and Care Department!
