Optimizing our metabolic health is the lowest-hanging fruit to achieve all our other health goals.

Many people don’t even realize it’s essential for weight loss. Tracking how different foods impact our blood sugar and insulin responses gives us the power to create metabolic flexibility and understand our individual reactions to foods.

If you have high blood sugar or high insulin, you need to eliminate the things that are sending your biology out of balance and include what’s needed to help your body rebalance itself.

The number one way to control your blood sugar, is to eat real food.

Food is information that controls your gene expression, hormones, and metabolism. Choose low-glycemic real foods including fresh vegetables, fruits, legumes, non-gluten grains, nuts, seeds, and high-quality animal protein.

If you do this, along with the other tips listed above, and avoiding starchy sugary processed foods then you will optimize your metabolic health.

Pumpkin seeds and sunflower seeds are powerhouses of DNA methylation, since they are rich in zinc, methionine, cysteine, magnesium, potassium, B3, B6, folate, and betaine. They're also great sources of essential fatty acids.

And they’re super easy to add to your diet. You can eat them by the handful, toss them in salads or in a seed & nut mix.

For a different texture, you can also use sunflower seed or pumpkin seed butter, which are just like peanut butter. These can easily be made at home with a little time and a food processor. Go for raw rather than roasted whenever possible.

Alternatives: Sesame seeds and tahini also pack a DNA methylation wallop.
