Foods that lift your mood: Berries

Berries pack a wide range of antioxidants and phenolic compounds, which play a key role in combatting oxidative stress, an imbalance of harmful compounds in your body. They’re particularly high in anthocyanins, a pigment that gives certain berries their purple-blue color.

A diet rich in anthocyanins is associated with a 39% lower risk of depression symptoms. If you can’t find them fresh, try buying frozen berries, which are frozen at their peak ripeness to retain the maximum amount of antioxidants.

Reflecting Daily

Some people journal regularly. Others create a gratitude list. Before your day ends, get into the practice of thinking about your day, how it went, what you accomplished, what surprised you.

Were you present for yourself? Did the activities/events of the day distract you, taking you away from what is important to you? What could you do differently tomorrow?

Mistakes most of us make when eating out
Not using the soy sauce and ginger correctly

Most people are used to putting the entire piece of food in the soy sauce.
The Japanese do it in a different way, they pour enough sauce for it to cover the bottom and they only slightly touch it with their sushi.
This salty sauce has a very distinct taste that doesn’t let you enjoy the food itself if you use the sauce wrong.

Ginger that is traditionally served during any Japanese meal is not used as a spice for sushi or rolls. It is used in order to help you differentiate the taste of 2 and more dishes. Ginger helps to clean the taste receptors between foods.

About the wasabi, you also shouldn’t eat too much of it. In good national restaurants, it is added in small portions during the cooking process in order to help you distinguish the ingredients.

Popular potato salad recipes
Julia Child’s American-style potato salad
The best potato salad if you like a mix of creamy-crunchy
Overall rating: 9.5/10

Ingredients:
😊2 pounds large Yukon Gold potatoes, or other waxy, boiling potatoes
😊2 tablespoons cider vinegar
😊1/3 cup chicken stock or potato-cooking water
😊2/3 cup finely chopped onion
😊1/2 cup finely chopped celery
😊3 or 4 slices crisply cooked bacon, chopped or crumbled
😊2 to 3 tablespoons finely chopped pickle, sweet or dill
😊2 hard-boiled eggs, peeled and sliced thin
😊3 tablespoons or so finely chopped fresh chives or scallions, including a bit of their tender green
😊Salt and freshly ground white pepper
😊1 cup or so mayonnaise, homemade if possible
😊Sour cream (optional)
For garnishing:
😊Crisp whole red-leaf or other lettuce leaves
😊Canned red pimiento, diced; sliced hard-boiled eggs; tomato quarters; parsley sprigs (optional)

Preparation:
😊Peel the potatoes and slice each one lengthwise in half, or in quarters if very large; then cut crosswise into half-round or quarter-round slices, about 1/2 inch thick.
😊Put the slices in a saucepan with water just to cover and 1 1/2 teaspoons of salt per quart of water. Heat to a simmer, and cook the potatoes for 5 to 6 minutes, or until just cooked through. It is essential that they be just cooked through. Bite into a slice or two to be very sure. Immediately remove from the heat and drain the potatoes into a colander, but save a cup of the cooking liquid for dressing the potatoes. Transfer the potatoes to a large bowl. Stir the cider vinegar with ⅓ cup of the potato water or chicken stock and drizzle this over the potato pieces, turning them gently to distribute it evenly. Let sit 10 minutes to absorb the liquid.
😊Add the prepared onion, celery, bacon, pickle, hard-boiled eggs, and chives, and season carefully to taste. Top with ⅔ cup of mayonnaise (or a mix of mayonnaise and a bit of sour cream) and, with a large rubber spatula, gently fold everything together until well blended. Taste the salad and add more salt, pepper, or mayonnaise as needed.
😊Cover the salad and set aside in the refrigerator for at least an hour or so before serving. If it is refrigerated longer, let it come back to room temperature before serving. Taste and adjust the seasoning again.
😊To serve, line a bowl or a platter with red-leaf lettuce or other greens, and mound the salad on top. Decorate at the last moment, if you wish, with any or all of the optional garnishes.

Phone battery myths you really have to stop believing
You need to charge your new phone fully before using it

The truth is your phone already has some juice, and skipping that first charge won’t affect its life long-term.
The only reason some manufacturers suggest charging it first is to make a good first impression.
By the time that new phone reaches your hand, testing and manufacturing have already drained it up to half the battery capacity.
If you expect an eight-hour battery and it lasted four hours, that’s not the experience the manufacturer wants you to have.
Most of the time these recommendations are to make users feel like they are getting the quality of the device they were promised.

Communication mistakes that can ruin your relationships
Stonewalling

Saying nothing can be just as harmful as saying something. "Stonewalling" is when the listener completely shuts off from the conversation. He/She may ignore his/her partner or even leave the room completely. They close off, tune out, act busy, and turn away.
When your partner is upset, don't give him/her the silent treatment. It's another form of disrespect. Instead, listen carefully to him/her without interruption. Ignoring the situation never helps solve a problem.
No matter how angry and upset you may be, always communicate with love. Communicating in a healthy, productive way is much more effective than trying to manipulate one another with your words and actions. Choose to respect your partner in the way that you talk and respond to him/her.

What happens to your body when you drink tea everyday

Which tea is the healthiest?

When choosing a tea, make sure it is unsweetened.
Even if some flavored teas contain no calories, they could still have artificial sweeteners and preservatives.
Opt for making your own tea as opposed to buying it already prepared.
The more tea leaves are processed, the less effective the catechins become.
Green tea is minimally processed and has the greatest health benefits of the available teas.

Cucumber: How you know these foods are expired

The high water content of cukes makes them highly perishable.
Better to buy only what you need and use them up quickly.
A bad cucumber will turn soft and sliced ones will start to feel slimy.

Smoothie basics

Smoothies are already made out of frozen produce, so you’re just taking an important step ahead of time.
Got a banana or mango that’s a little overripe but don’t feel like eating it yet?
Cut it up and save it for a busy morning that only leaves time for a blender-friendly breakfast.
Add some frozen berries for a convenient antioxidant boost.
