I'm Jeremiah Matters, a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in the states of California and Nevada, and I specialize in LGBTQ+ relationships and helping clients navigate the Coming Out Journey. I do not own my practice as I am still a Registered Associate Marriage and Family Therapist, AMFT #121794, and I am working under the supervision of Tammy Hyland, LMFT #92625 through Hyland and Associates Counseling Services.

We spend most of our childhood and adolescence adapting and molding to our environment so we can fit in. Standing out and being unique was often discouraged by our peers because being "different" was weird and not "normal". The long-term consequences of this are that we often times enter adulthood not fully knowing ourselves, and therefore, not being happy with who we are, or even deeper than that, not KNOWING who we are. Although this is not exclusive of the LGBTQ+ Community, this story resonates with many in the Community since we typically had to hide our true selves growing up, and when we finally accept ourselves, we often have to start over in many ways. You deserve to discover who you truly are, and I know that doing it all on your own can be scary because I did that myself when I started my own therapy journey. If you are feeling lost, starting to find yourself and don't know where to start, or if any of this resonates with you, please message me and I'd love to learn how I can help you! πŸ’™.....................

Yesterday I was helping a client navigate an intrusive thought and I was reminded of the illustration below that I found a couple years ago, but I've always wanted to expand on it to make it easier to process even outside of therapy by yourself, so I made the steps into an acronym called TEACH. Although I created TEACH, the illustration was created by someone else (see their IG handle below). I hope this can benefit anyone reading this personally, and/ or professionally for those working with clients or other people in a helping profession. Please feel free to share and let me know if you have any questions or need examples. πŸ˜„β€οΈ

It's National Su***de Prevention Month. Did you know that LGB youth seriously contemplate su***de at almost 3x the rate of heterosexual youth? And a national study showed that 40% of transgender adults reported having made a su***de attempt, with 92% of those before the age of 25? Don't underestimate the power of showing love and support for an LGBTQ+ person; your acceptance is an act of su***de prevention. πŸ’™
