Dr. Velasco here. Happy New Year to our iFocus Vision Center family!
This year marked 20 years of becoming an optometrist, 16 years since opening the practice, and 4 years in our current location. These milestones come with pride, but also honesty.
There’s a misconception that once a practice has been around “long enough,” things become easy. The reality is that independent healthcare has never been more challenging. Rising costs, constant insurance denials that directly affect patient care, and the difficulty of building and keeping the right team have taken a real toll. There have been moments this past year when I genuinely questioned whether continuing this practice was sustainable.
What has kept me here is not the business, it’s the people.
Sixteen years means watching toddlers grow up and graduate, guiding patients through decades of changing vision, walking seniors through cataract surgery, and sitting with patients in grief when life changes in ways none of us are prepared for. Over time, patients become more than patients. They become family.
The work that satisfies me most is helping those who come in believing there is no hope. Patients with keratoconus, corneal ectasia, or vision loss from injury. When a specialty lens finally gives them vision, even partial vision, the tears, the laughter, the disbelief are real. Those moments remind me why I decided to take a risk and open iFocus Vision Center.
I acknowledge we are not the cheapest option, and I fully understand the very real strain the current economy has placed on families and household budgets. Trust me, we feel it too. Choosing where to spend your healthcare dollars is not easy. What I can promise is that every recommendation we make is rooted in what we believe is best for your vision, your long-term eye health, and your quality of life. The time we take, the expertise we bring, and the care we provide are intentional. My team and I work every day to ensure that our service, attention, and outcomes justify that cost.
What I’ve learned over the years is that this practice continues because of the trust and support of our patients. Many of you choose to receive not only your eye exams here, but also your glasses and contact lenses, and that support truly makes a difference. It allows us to spend more time with you, invest in advanced technology, and provide the level of care and attention that independent practices are known for. I am deeply grateful to those who support us in this way. It is a big part of how we’re able to keep doing what we love.
As we enter 2026, my hope is for meaningful change:
• to continue restoring vision and quality of life
• to share more joy and laughter with my incredible team—Jenn, Joana, Maritza, Anthony, Alexis, and Avery
• and for iFocus Vision Center to truly thrive, not just survive
Thank you for trusting me with your care and for being part of this journey. I wish all of you health, clarity, and stability in the year ahead.
