National Work Zone Awareness Week (NWZAW) begins April 20, and there’s still time to make sure everyone in your organization is ready.

This year’s theme, Safe Actions Save Lives, reinforces that preventing work zone tragedies is a shared responsibility. Drivers, roadway workers, industry professionals, agencies and organizations all play a role. Nearly 900 people are killed each year in work zone-related crashes, and NWZAW is an opportunity to help drive awareness and action.

Here’s what to have on your radar next week:

Monday, April 20:
Share key work zone safety messages, including struck by risks and proper traffic control practices. Kick off the week by posting work zone safety facts on social media.

Tuesday, April 21:
The national kickoff event, hosted by CTDOT in Farmington, CT, will be livestreamed at https://ct-n.com/. Federal and state officials will take part—tune in and encourage others to watch.

Wednesday, April 22:
Go Orange Day. Encourage participation across your organization—from field staff to office teams and partners. Wear orange, share photos using , and help raise visibility for roadway safety.

Thursday, April 23:
Post throughout the day using and to demonstrate your organization’s commitment to safer work zones.

Friday, April 24:
Pause to remember the workers, drivers and passengers who lost their lives in work zone crashes. Share your observance online.

What you can do right now:
• Download posters, social assets and event guides at www.nwzaw.org
• Access the NWZAW Partner Toolkit for ready to use outreach materials at NWZAW.org or ATSSA.com
• Brief leadership, communications and safety teams on the week’s activities
• Plan social media posts and Go Orange Day participation
Every roadway worker deserves to make it home safely. Let’s make this the most visible National Work Zone Awareness Week yet.

National Work Zone Awareness Week is right around the corner, and there’s still time to get involved. It will take place April 20-24, 2026.

Safe Actions Save Lives isn’t just the theme, it reflects the reality our members face every day. Raising awareness next week helps reinforce the safe behaviors that prevent work zone tragedies. Every action, every post, every conversation strengthens the message that everyone working in or driving through work zones deserves to make it home.
