Could It Be PCOS? 🤔 Let’s Talk About It. 💬

Polycystic O***y Syndrome (PCOS) is one of the most common hormonal conditions affecting people with ovaries, impacting an estimated 10 to 20 percent worldwide. Yet, many people live with symptoms for years before getting answers.

One reason is simple. PCOS does not look the same for everyone. In fact, even members of the same family will experience PCOS differently.

Here are a few things more people should know:

👉 Some people with PCOS have ovaries that appear “polycystic” on ultrasound. These are not true cysts. They are small follicles, essentially egg houses that have not matured and ovulated.

👉 Others may not have polycystic appearing ovaries at all but still meet the criteria for PCOS due to hormonal imbalance and metabolic changes.

👉 Not everyone with PCOS struggles with excess weight. There are many individuals with PCOS who are lean, which challenges the common stereotype that PCOS only affects those with higher BMI.

👉 PCOS is not just about the ovaries. It can involve multiple hormone systems including the adrenal glands, thyroid, pituitary signaling, metabolism, and even sexual health.

👉 PCOS is also about long term health. The metabolic changes linked to PCOS can increase the risk of type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease over time.

👉 For people with very irregular or infrequent periods, the uterine lining may build up over time. Without proper medical care, this can lead to endometrial hyperplasia, a precancerous condition that can progress to endometrial cancer (i.e. cancer of the womb lining).

Because PCOS presents differently for everyone, getting the right evaluation matters.

If you recognize some of these signs or have been wondering whether PCOS could be affecting your hormones, health, or fertility, it may be time to speak with a specialist.

March is Endometriosis Awareness Month. 😀

Awareness is important. Action is more important.

If you have been living with pain that feels bigger than “just cramps,” this is your reminder not to keep postponing evaluation. Not next year. Not after another cycle. Not when it gets worse.

Earlier conversations lead to earlier answers. Earlier answers lead to better long-term outcomes.

If something feels off, trust that signal. Schedule the appointment. Bring your symptom history. Ask direct questions.

You deserve clarity. And you deserve it sooner.

Save this. Share this. Act on this.

How are you commemorating Women’s History Month?

Happy Women’s History Month! 👩🏾‍⚕️💛

Reproductive medicine exists as it does today because women insisted on studying women’s health more deeply including looking at our health from a whole body perspective. They questioned outdated assumptions. They pushed research forward. They built laboratories, led trials, trained surgeons, and expanded what was possible for future families.

Here at Nevada Fertility Institute, that history is not distant … it’s the core of our practice philosophy! It shapes the way care is delivered every day. It shapes how data is interpreted, how options are explained, and how decisions are made with both rigor and respect.

Around the world, women continue to influence science, policy, education, and community in ways that will ripple for generations. Progress in fertility care is part of that broader story.

This month honors the women who paved the way and those who continue to move it forward with intelligence, resilience, and intention.

And yes, these are the faces of the women of Nevada Fertility Institute. The women whose hands, minds, and commitment help shape futures every single day. 😉

Nine years ago today, Stephanie walked into our temporary office at San Martin Hospital and asked if we needed a temporary staff member.

What a win for us! Two weeks into her 3-month temporary role, we bought out her contract and made her a permanent part of the NFI family! 😊

Today, she is our Lead Coordinator and Patient Care Concierge and one of the pillars of Nevada Fertility Institute. She knows our clinic inside and out because she has lived almost every role in it. From the front lines to behind the scenes, she is the ultimate cross coverage. When something needs to be done, she already knows how.

Our patients adore her. They feel her calm, her clarity, and her heart. Being multilingual, she makes sure every family feels understood and supported.

Beyond the clinic, Stephanie is a cancer survivor, an incredible mom, and a devoted wife. Her strength is quiet but undeniable. Her loyalty is unmatched.

Nine years of growth, grit, and grace. We are better because she walked through that door. 💛

Many people are surprised to learn how sensitive s***m production is to temperature.

Small, repeated increases in heat over time can affect count, movement, and overall quality. That doesn’t mean everyday life is “ruining” fertility. It does mean that awareness matters, especially if you’re trying to conceive.

Simple adjustments can support reproductive health. And when questions remain, testing provides clarity.

If you’re unsure where you stand, a semen analysis is often a helpful first step.

Egg freezing is often misunderstood as something reserved for celebrities or influencers. In reality, it is a medical option that many people consider for practical, thoughtful reasons related to timing, health, and life circumstances.

For some, it provides flexibility. For others, it offers peace of mind. And for many, it simply creates space to make decisions without feeling rushed.

The most important part is not following a trend. It is understanding your body, your options, and what makes sense for you.

If you’re curious about whether egg freezing fits your goals, a personalized consultation can provide clarity and guidance.

We’re here to help when you’re ready.

🚹 𝐌𝐚𝐥𝐞 𝐅𝐞𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 & 𝐖𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐛𝐞𝐢𝐧𝐠: 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐘𝐨𝐮 𝐍𝐞𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐨 𝐊𝐧𝐨𝐰! 💡✨

Did you know that male fertility is just as important as female fertility in the journey to conception? Unfortunately, many men are unaware of the factors that affect their s***m health. Let’s break it down! 🧬⚡

🔬 1. 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐇𝐢𝐝𝐝𝐞𝐧 𝐄𝐧𝐞𝐦𝐲: 𝐎𝐱𝐢𝐝𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐒𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐬
Oxidative stress can damage s***m at the cellular level, leading to lower motility, DNA fragmentation, and reduced fertility potential. But don’t worry—there’s hope!

🍊 2. 𝐀𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐱𝐢𝐝𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐬: 𝐘𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐒𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐦’𝐬 𝐁𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐅𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐝
Powerful antioxidants like Vitamin C, E, and CoQ10 help protect s***m from oxidative damage, improving both s***m quality and DNA integrity—key factors for conception!

🧪 3. 𝐂𝐚𝐧 𝐀𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐱𝐢𝐝𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐬 𝐈𝐦𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐯𝐞 𝐈𝐕𝐅 𝐒𝐮𝐜𝐜𝐞𝐬𝐬?
Absolutely! Research shows that men who take antioxidants may improve their s***m function, leading to higher success rates in IVF treatments.

🏃‍♂️ 4. 𝐋𝐢𝐟𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐲𝐥𝐞 𝐌𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐬
Your daily choices—diet, exercise, stress levels, and sleep—all play a role in s***m health. Cutting out smoking including cutting out cannabis, cutting excessive alcohol, and cutting processed foods can boost male fertility naturally!

🥑 5. 𝐍𝐮𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 & 𝐓𝐚𝐫𝐠𝐞𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐒𝐮𝐩𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭
Not all antioxidants work the same way! Certain nutrients specifically improve s***m count, motility, or morphology. Knowing what your body needs is key!

𝐒𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐦 𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐭: 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐑𝐄𝐀𝐋𝐋𝐘 𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐬?

Think your s***m count is “normal”? That might not be enough. Many men are told their numbers are fine, but in reality, they fall into the sub-fertile range—meaning lower chances of achieving pregnancy.

At Nevada Fertility Institute, we see this all the time. That’s why we’re breaking down what truly matters for s***m health and how to improve your numbers—whether trying naturally or with fertility treatments.

⚠️ 𝐖𝐚𝐫𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠: Hormone therapies like testosterone replacement therapy (TRT), anabolic steroids, DHEA, and testosterone-boosting supplements can actually shut down or severely diminish s***m production in the te**es. If you’re thinking about having kids in the future, reconsider these and talk to a fertility specialist about alternatives that stimulate your body’s natural testosterone (and s***m) production instead.
