The need to feel completely sure about something is extremely common in OCD.

But that level of certainty doesn’t actually exist and the more you chase it, the more doubt grows.

Seeking certainty might bring a moment of relief, but it keeps the cycle going.

Recovery is learning to move forward without needing the “right” answer.

Social media and Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder can be a tricky mix.

It starts as “I’ll just look this up once” …and turns into 20 tabs, 3 videos, and somehow feeling worse.

OCD knows how to turn searching into a loop.
Sometimes the most supportive thing you can do for yourself is not finding the answer.

This is all-or-nothing mindset. Your brain uses one negative event to predict future outcomes. If one social interaction doesn’t go well, you might think, “I’ll always embarrass myself in groups.”

But one moment isn’t a pattern, it’s just a moment. Your mind is trying to protect you by creating certainty, even if that certainty is negative. The truth is, every interaction is different, and you’re allowed to show up imperfectly.

So many people don’t get help for OCD because of the myths surrounding it. Misunderstandings can make it harder to recognize what you’re going through or easier to dismiss it.

What are other myths you’ve heard?

Intrusive thoughts do not define you.

You are defined by your values, your actions, and the life you choose to build beyond them.

When you allow anxiety to be there without trying to fix it, you take away its power.

OCD and anxiety often push us into absolute thinking: all-or-nothing, perfect-or-failure, safe-or-dangerous.

Recovery means learning to make space for the in-between where uncertainty and flexibility can exist. 💛

Anxiety: What if everything goes wrong?
Intuition: This doesn’t feel right.

They may feel similar, but they come from very different places.

OCD can make it feel like there are only two options: perfect or total failure.

But real life lives in the middle.

Learning to tolerate “good enough” can be a powerful step toward breaking out of black-and-white thinking.
