Veteran Benefits Guide

Veteran Benefits Guide VBG assists Veterans to prepare and submit their disability claims accurately to the VA.

Veteran Benefits Guide was founded by former United States Marine, Joshua Smith. Josh was employed by the Veteran Benefits Administration (VA) as a Rating Veteran Service Representative (Rater). During his tenure at the VA he discovered many inefficiencies in the way Veterans disability ratings were evaluated. He witnessed firsthand how the VA’s method of deciding Veterans’ disability ratings was heavily flawed and designed a system to address those deficiencies. Recognizing the need to provide Veterans a better option for processing their VA disability claims, Josh set out to create a means to expedite them through the VA claim process while also obtaining the benefits Veterans deserve. Years later, VBG has successfully guided over 55,000 Veterans with submitting their VA disability claims, resulting in substantially increased compensation benefits for their disabilities which are related to active duty service.

Team VBG partnered with the Travis Manion Foundation for a community service event in Jacksonville Beach.

Volunteers gathered at the Jacksonville Beach Pier and completed a one-mile ruck march while carrying canned goods to support a local food kitchen. The group then participated in a shoreline beach cleanup.

Activities concluded with a community social at Jax Beach Bowl, where the TMF Jacksonville chapter provided bowling for the first hour. The gathering was open to families.

VBG is proud to partner with the Travis Manion Foundation on community-focused initiatives such as this event. Serving alongside dedicated volunteers who are committed to strengthening local communities reflects the organization’s core values, and VBG looks forward to continuing its support of impactful service efforts.

Thirty years — that's how long Marine Corps Veteran Todd waited to file for VA benefits, following his service in Beirut during the 1980s.

After a VSO told him it "wasn’t worth trying" for a higher rating, Todd reached out to VBG. In less than three months, he received an accurate rating that reflects the impact of his service.

Todd recalls the moment: "I was teary-eyed when I put my claim in the mail. ... I went 30 years without my benefits, and with VBG, it took me two and a half months to get the accurate rating I deserve."

VBG is committed to helping Veterans secure the benefits they deserve. Thank you for your service, Todd!

California Gov. Gavin Newsom has signed Senate Bill 694 into law.

The legislation will change how Veterans access support for navigating the VA disability claims process in the state.

VBG continues to assist Veterans as allowed by law, while recognizing that support is limited under the legislation.

The company remains committed to putting Veterans first and providing ethical, responsible support nationwide.

Recent action by the Texas Office of the Attorney General highlights the need for common-sense guardrails to protect Veterans while preserving the right to use honorable services like VBG.

The matter involved a single company's deceptive business practices and underscores the need for strong, clear consumer protections that safeguard Veterans from unethical conduct while preserving access to legitimate, transparent assistance. Ethical organizations providing Veteran claims assistance do not engage in deceptive practices, undisclosed arrangements with medical providers, or coercive or predatory debt-collection tactics.

Veterans deserve clarity, accountability and safeguards that put their interests first.

VBG is a proud founding member of the National Association for Veterans Rights and joins them in thanking the attorney general and highlighting the importance of SAVE Act legislation.

Calling all Californians

Senate Bill 694 will take away a Veteran’s freedom to choose how they receive help with VA disability claims. With the VA system already overwhelmed, limiting options only hurts the Veterans who served our country.

This bill has passed the California State Legislature and now awaits Gov. Newsom’s decision. If you are a:

· Veteran
· Family member of a Veteran
· Friend of a Veteran, or
· Anyone who supports those who served

Your voice matters!

Join this campaign and urge Gov. Newsom to veto Senate Bill 694
