🔥 What Is Tendonitis?

Tendonitis happens when a tendon — the tough tissue that connects muscle to bone — becomes irritated or inflamed.

It’s one of the most common overuse injuries and often shows up after:
➡️ Repetitive motions
➡️ Increased activity too quickly
➡️ Poor form during exercise or work tasks
Common signs include:
✔️ Pain with movement
✔️ Tenderness along the tendon
✔️ Mild swelling

The good news? With early treatment and proper rest, most cases improve quickly.

If pain keeps coming back or makes daily movement difficult, our team at Thomas & Pennington Orthopedics & Sports Medicine is here to help you heal safely and get back to the activities you love.

🔥 Warm-Up vs. Cool-Down: Why BOTH Matter ❄️
Most people skip one… or both. But each plays a totally different role in protecting your joints and preventing injury.

👉 Warm-Up = PrepareThink of a warm-up as “waking up” your muscles and increasing blood flow before activity. It helps:• Improve mobility• Boost performance• Reduce injury risk• Get your body ready to move

👉 Cool-Down = RecoverA cool-down helps your body transition out of activity. It helps:• Lower your heart rate gradually• Reduce stiffness• Improve flexibility• Support overall recovery

⭐ Pro tip: Even 5 minutes on each side can make a big difference.

Your body deserves both—before AND after you move.

🦴 Orthopedic Myth Buster!

Myth: “If you can walk on it, it’s not broken.”
Fact: Many people can still walk on a fractured bone — especially if the break is small, stable, or in certain areas of the foot or ankle. Your pain tolerance, swelling, and the exact location of the fracture all play a huge role.

If something feels off, you’re limping, or the pain doesn’t improve… don’t ignore it. A quick evaluation can prevent long-term issues and help you heal properly.

🦴 Movement Myth Busters!

❌ Myth: “Cracking your knuckles causes arthritis.”
✔️ Fact: There’s no strong evidence that knuckle cracking leads to arthritis.

That popping sound? It’s just gas bubbles releasing inside the joint — not damage being done.

What can cause joint problems?Repetitive heavy strain, injuries, inflammation, or underlying conditions like osteoarthritis.

So crack away if it feels good — just don’t force it or push through pain.
If your joints click, ache, or feel swollen regularly, our team at Thomas & Pennington Orthopedics & Sports Medicine can help you understand what’s really going on.

💪 Rotator Cuff Repair: What Recovery Really Looks Like
Recovering from rotator cuff surgery takes time — but knowing what to expect can make the process easier. Here’s a quick breakdown of the typical healing timeline:

Weeks 0–2:• Pain + limited movement is normal• Sleeping upright or in a recliner helps• No driving yet

Weeks 3–6:• Gentle physical therapy begins• Slow improvement in comfort and mobility

Weeks 6–12:• Start active motion + light strengthening• Many return to desk work (if cleared)

Months 3–6:• Big gains in strength and function• Some sports and activities resume

Months 6–12:• Full recovery for most patients• Return to heavier work or overhead tasks

👍 Tips for a smoother recovery:
• Follow your physical therapy plan
• Don’t rush lifting or overhead movements
• Support your shoulder when sleeping
• Ask before driving or returning to work
• Be patient — tendons heal slowly!

🦵 What Is Bursitis? Let’s Break It Down.

Your joints are cushioned by tiny fluid-filled sacs called bursae. When these sacs become inflamed, the result is bursitis— a common cause of knee, shoulder, hip, or elbow pain.

Here’s what to watch for:

🔸 Swelling or puffiness around the joint
🔸 Tenderness when pressing on the area
🔸 Pain with certain movements
🔸 Often caused by kneeling, leaning on elbows, or repetitive pressure

Bursitis can make everyday tasks uncomfortable — but the good news?
👉 It’s very treatable with the right care.

💡 Tips to Help Your Bursitis Improve:
• Avoid repetitive pressure on the joint
• Use ice to reduce inflammation
• Stretch gently
• Strengthen surrounding muscles
• Seek evaluation if swelling or pain persists

🦵 Why Your Knee Hurts: The 6 Most Common Causes

Knee pain can come from many sources — here are the issues we see most often:

1️⃣ Meniscus Tears: Sharp pain, clicking, or catching after twisting or pivoting.
2️⃣ Arthritis: Stiffness, swelling, and morning soreness.
3️⃣ Patellar Pain: Aching around the kneecap, especially on stairs or after sitting.
4️⃣ Ligament Injuries (ACL/MCL): Swelling and instability after sudden movements or sports injuries.
5️⃣ Tendonitis: Overuse pain just below the kneecap.
6️⃣ Bursitis: Swelling and tenderness from kneeling or pressure.

💡 See a Specialist If:
• Pain lasts more than a week
• Your knee feels unstable
• You can’t bend or straighten it
• Swelling won’t go down

💪 Prevention Tips:Warm up, strengthen your legs, wear supportive shoes, and avoid sudden training increases.
If knee pain is slowing you down, Thomas & Pennington Orthopedics & Sports Medicine is here to help you get back to moving comfortably.

💧 Stay Hydrated — Your Joints Depend on It!

Did you know that water plays a big role in keeping your joints healthy? 🦴💦

The fluid that cushions and lubricates your joints — called synovial fluid — is mostly made of water. When you’re dehydrated, that fluid becomes less effective, which can lead to stiffness, discomfort, and slower recovery.

💙 Hydration Tips for Healthy Joints:
✅ Aim for at least 8 cups (64 oz) of water per day
✅ Increase intake during exercise or hot weather
✅ Choose water over sugary or caffeinated drinks

Keeping your joints moving smoothly starts with something simple — a glass of water! 💧
