🦃 From Your ER at Blue Diamond Team, an extension of Spring Valley Hospital: Thanksgiving Safety Starts in the Kitchen (and Beyond!)

Before you dive into that turkey, here’s your friendly reminder from the ER: the most common Thanksgiving mishaps are food poisoning, falls while decorating, and holiday travel accidents — all preventable with a little planning.

🍗 Keep your feast safe:
• Cook turkey and stuffing all the way through (use a meat thermometer — 165°F is the magic number).
• Keep raw and cooked foods separate, and wash hands and surfaces often.
• Refrigerate leftovers within 2 hours to keep bacteria from joining your dinner party.

🎄 Avoid the “holiday acrobatics”:
Use ladders safely, skip the stepstool balancing act and save the wine until the decorating’s done.

🚗 Travel smart:
Buckle up, stay alert and don’t drive if you’re drowsy or have been drinking. Thanksgiving is one of the busiest travel weekends for ERs nationwide.

✨ Stay safe, stay thankful and may your only leftovers be the ones in your fridge, not from a hospital visit!

Thanks to Dr. Saira Mehmood, MD, MBA, FACEP, medical director of the ER at Blue Diamond for this solid advice! And should you need assistance, we are open 24/7, including Thanksgiving Day!

The end of the year can sneak up fast, and it's easy to push aside things like going to the doctor when schedules get busy. But if you've met your deductible or have health benefits that reset in January, it makes sense to schedule any needed appointments or procedures now so you can get them in before the year ends. Doing so not only helps to keep you healthier, but it can also save you money.

Here are some appointments to make now so you can get on the schedule before January rolls around: http://spklr.io/6187Bz0ZZ.
