Meet The Team Tuesday!

We are pleased to introduce Karen, RN, who works in our Intensive Care Unit. Karen began her Valley Health System career as a Pharmacy Tech at the former Desert Springs Hospital, then earned her nursing degree and spent time at Valley Hospital before joining Spring Valley Hospital in 2018.

Karen has honed her skills over the years to work in a variety of capacities - serving as a preceptor to new nurses, rapid response nurse, open heart nurse, relief charge nurse, and working with all the specialty equipment including, CRRT machine, balloon pump, Impella, and more!

She credits her manager, Connie, and one of her clinical supervisors, Camry, who “really pushed me to do more, learn more, and grow. It helped shape my mindset to keep learning, hone skills I’m not good at, take classes, and stay relevant. Now I’m teaching at skills fairs and CRRT class.”

While she has expanded her capabilities, her heart remains with patients. When asked what aspect of her work she finds most rewarding, Karen said, “The pride I feel when someone gets better and goes home – they started with wires and tubes and completely dependent on you, then you see them improve and go home – it’s the coolest thing.

Thank you, Karen, for all you do for our patients, coworkers and community!

Thank you to all the amazing physicians who are on the medical staff at Spring Valley Hospital! In addition to diagnosing and treating patients, our medical staff members serve additional roles in the hospital - serving on hospital-based committees, as faculty members to residents, as guest speakers for special events and much more.

We wish we could feature all of them, but they don't stay in one place very long!

Today, we are celebrating two registered nurses for two very good reasons.

Elenrae, RN, recently received the Good Catch Lifesaver award for her proactive approach during a medication review to ensure patient safety and prevent harm.

Sarah, RN, received the Nursing STAR of the Month award for exemplifying outstanding teamwork. “She is the kind of nurse who steps in without being asked, supports her colleagues during busy moments, and communicates clearly to ensure safe, seamless patient care. Her positive attitude and willingness to collaborate make her a trusted and valued member of the team,” wrote her nominator. “What makes Sarah extraordinary is the special way she connects with her patients. She brings compassion, patience, and genuine warmth to the bedside, creating an environment where patients feel safe, heard, and cared for. Her presence alone brings comfort, and her dedication ensures that every patient receives the highest level of care.”

Thank you, both, for your outstanding care, compassion and nursing excellence!

Meet the Team Monday!

We are pleased to introduce Viviann, RN, our 3 West Orthopedic nursing unit. Viviann joined Spring Valley Hospital as a new graduate RN in 2023, thanks to her nurse manager, who brought so much energy and spoke very highly of the staff.

Viviann’s caring and helping nature was evident from an early age as she helped out with family medical issues. “My parents were in a car accident and my dad had to have surgery. I helped my mom with caring for him during his recovery,” she said. Vivianne made sure to have a well-rounded background in healthcare, beginning as a medical assistant in a physician office, a chiropractor practice and even an animal hospital. “I wanted to know more, do more, so I sought a career in nursing and obtained my BSN.”

As a nurse, “Getting to know my patients is the most rewarding – not just carrying out their plan of care, but I love connecting with the family, building trust, hearing their stories, everything helps with the patient’s recovery process,” she said.

Her advice to other nurses beginning their job applies to many other careers and industries as well. “Choose a place and environment where leaders and coworkers are honest, genuine and supportive – you need a support system – it’s what I found at Spring Valley Hospital.”

Thank you, Viviann, for all you do to care for our patients and our community!
