This new poll gives important insight. Mental health ratings are declining across all groups, but the shift is being driven largely by younger Americans, who are also the most likely to seek mental health care.
Growing up in a time when mental health is discussed more openly, young adults have seen increased attention from healthcare providers, employers, and policymakers on emotional wellbeing. This cultural shift may be making people, especially younger generations, more comfortable acknowledging when their mental health isn’t where they want it to be.

Twenty-nine percent of U.S. adults describe their mental health as excellent, down 14 points from 2019 and the first reading below 30%.
