Do you have seasonal allergies?
Seasonal allergies can place extra stress on the lungs and immune system, often showing up as congestion, cough, runny nose, and a foggy mind.
Jin Shin Jyutsu offers a gentle way to reduce allergy symptoms by “jumper-cabling” specific locations of the body with your hands to help decongest and harmonize the body’s energy flow for better health—especially along pathways connected to the lungs and respiratory system.
These “quickie” holds are simple and flexible. You don’t need to do them in any particular order. Nor do you need to do them all. Just choose one that resonates with you in the moment and allow your body to receive the healing benefits.
1. Lung Flow Anchor Hold
Woman holding the anchor step of the lung flow in Jin Shin Jyutsu: SEL 22 and SEL 14.
This foundational hold is the first step of Jin Shin Jyutsu’s Lung Flow. It helps harmonize the lung energy pathway, supporting both breath and the body’s interaction with seasonal elements.
How to practice (Left Side):
Place your right hand at the bottom of your left collarbone (SEL 22).
Place your left hand at the base of your left ribs (SEL 14).
Rest your hands gently and breathe naturally.
After a few minutes, you may switch sides if you feel guided:
Place your left hand at the bottom of your right collarbone,
And your right hand at the base of your right ribs.
Stay for as long as feels comfortable.
2. Liver Flow Anchor Hold
This hold brings together areas that support both the head (including dizziness, head tension, and eye-related discomfort) and lung function. It can feel especially helpful when there is emotional imbalance, congestion, or mental fog.
How to practice:
Place your right hand at the base of the skull (at the occipital ridge) on the right side (SEL 4).
Place your left hand just below the left collarbone (SEL 22).
Relax your shoulders and allow your breath to flow naturally.
Rest here for several minutes, noticing any sense of release, clearing, or calm. If the arm holding SEL 4 becomes tired, use a cushion or pillow to support it.
You may also reverse these positions to the opposite side of the body if guided to do so.
3. The Inner Commander & Authority Hold
This hold is so natural—we often do it without even realizing it. It’s also a wonderful Jin Shin Jyutsu hold to practice in the presence of others without drawing attention.
By holding here, you are helping to clear chestline congestion and cough, harmonize lung energy, and support relief from symptoms such as wheezing and a runny nose—along with many other benefits that will be shared in future posts. Best of all, this hold is all about “inner authority at the spiritual level”.
How to practice:
Place your right hand on your left upper arm/bicep area (SEL High 19).
Place your left hand on your right upper arm/bicep area (SEL High 19).
Hold gently and allow your body to settle.
4. The Finger Quickie for Allergies
In Jin Shin Jyutsu, finger holds are a powerful and accessible way to support the body through multiple healing projects while harmonizing specific organ functions.
For seasonal allergies, the go-to finger hold is the ring finger, which is associated with the lungs.
How to practice:
Gently grasp (without squeezing) your ring finger with your opposite hand. Hold for a few minutes, or as long as it feels good.
Whether you choose the right or left ring finger is entirely up to you. However, you may find this helpful:
Right hand fingers support daily stress and energy blockages related to environmental factors (like weather and lifestyle).
Left hand fingers support long-standing or chronic projects, such as past experiences, hereditary patterns, and lingering conditions.
