This is part 3 in our series on Glaucoma. Today's topic: Symptoms.

Glaucoma is often called the “silent thief of sight” for a reason—many forms have no warning signs in the early stages.

Vision changes happen so gradually that you may not notice until significant damage has occurred. That’s why regular eye exams that include eye pressure measurements are essential for early detection.

When symptoms do appear, they can include:
- Gradual loss of peripheral (side) vision
- Tunnel vision in advanced stages
- Blurred vision
- Eye pain or pressure
- Headaches
- Halos around lights
- Nausea and vomiting (with severe eye pain in acute cases)

If you experience sudden severe eye pain, headache, or vision changes, seek immediate care—these can signal an emergency form of glaucoma.

Be aware of the signs and schedule regular eye exams to protect your vision.

FREEZING COLD WEATHER AHEAD! Here are some great tips from our trusted Insurance Advisor, AMSURE.

Our area is expected to experience extreme cold this week, with the potential of a winter storm with a mix of snow and ice. These conditions increase the risk of frozen pipes, ice dams, and heavy snow loads, all of which can cause costly property damage.

Selective and AMSURE offer these tips that you can follow to help protect your business.

Help protect your pipes during extreme cold:

✓ Keep your thermostat set to at least 55°F at all times.

✓Designate and train staff on how to shut off the building’s water supply, and ensure they can access all required valves.

✓Have a licensed professional regularly inspect, maintain, and test water handling systems.

✓Monitor building power and have a plan to safely maintain heat during outages.

✓Regularly check heating and water systems, especially if your business is closed or unoccupied.
Prepare for snow and ice from the upcoming storm:

✓Remove leaves and debris from gutters, drains, and downspouts to prevent ice dams.

✓Create or update your snow and ice removal plan, including roof snow management by a licensed professional.

✓Ensure you have adequate winter weather equipment on hand (shovels, scrapers, salt/sand).

✓ Remind employees to fully clear snow from vehicles before driving—especially roofs, headlights, and taillights.

Loren brings more than 14 years of experience in the human services and healthcare fields to EverHome Care Advisors. A Licensed Master Social Worker, she has developed deep expertise working with diverse populations across the lifespan. Her career includes serving as a medical social work care manager at Trinity Health St. Peter’s Medical System, where she focused on supporting patients 55 and older and advocating for the needs of older adults. Her work spans physical disabilities, mental health challenges, substance use disorders, and medically complex individuals, with a strong emphasis on enhancing quality of life and independence.

In her new role, Loren will be instrumental in providing personalized care guidance and advocacy services to EverHome’s clients. Individuals living with chronic illness, long-term disabilities, and aging populations who wish to remain safely and independently at home will benefit from Loren’s expertise. She will support families and care partners by conducting comprehensive assessments, helping develop individualized care plans, navigating healthcare systems, and connecting clients with crucial resources and services.
