Autotransformers - MSHA Safety Alert

"Autotransformers being used by machine manufacturers pose a potential ground fault hazard. It is hazardous when a ground fault within the autotransformer occurs and goes undetected by the ground fault protection circuit. Miners and electricians have reported being shocked when contacting shuttle cars. Shuttle cars equipped with autotransformers may cause a ground fault condition that goes undetected. These hazards exist when an autotransformer ground fault occurs, and the ground fault protection circuit is inadequate because the ground fault current is too low to be detected..."

🚨 911 Center Safety Reminder: Carbon Monoxide Awareness 🚨
Following snowfall, please take a moment to clear snow and ice from furnace vents, exhaust pipes, and dryer vents outside your home. Blocked vents can cause dangerous carbon monoxide (CO) buildup indoors.
Important CO safety tips from your 911 Center:
• Keep all exterior vents clear of snow and debris
• Never run vehicles or gas-powered equipment in garages or near windows
• Ensure carbon monoxide detectors are working and installed on every level of your home
• If a CO alarm sounds or you feel symptoms like dizziness, headache, or nausea — get outside immediately and call 911
Carbon monoxide is colorless, odorless, and potentially deadly.
Taking a few minutes to check your vents after shoveling can prevent an emergency call — and save lives.

We have posted about this twice, but based on what we are seeing in our neighborhoods, an additional post may be helpful. Many hydrants remain burried days after the storm. Some even have additional snow from driveway clearing piled on them. Even if it is not in front of your house, it may be the one we need if you have a fire. This photo was shared by a resident in the Foxwander neighborhood who cleared two hydrants, both several houses away from his. Buried hydrants are difficult to find in an emergency and digging them out will cost us precious time if there is a fire. We need your help. Be a hydrant hero.
