Menopause is having a moment
and while it's wonderful that more people are talking about it, the amount of information online can feel overwhelming and sometimes contradictory.
From Social Media advice to celebrity trends to endless supplement ads, it can be hard to know what is evidence-based and what is simply marketing.
Every woman's body, symptoms, health history, and risk factors are different - which means there is no one-size-fits-all solution.
At Capital Region OBGYN, we believe menopause care should be personalized, medically sound, and based on your individual goals and health needs.
Whether you are considering hormone therapy, non-hormonal options, or lifestyle changes, we are here to help you sort through the noise and make informed decisions you feel confident about.
You don't have to figure this out alone!
Schedule a visit and let's create a plan that's right for you.

NATIONAL WEAR RED DAY

Today we wear red to raise awareness about heart disease - the leading cause of death in women.
It is not just a " men's issue", and symptoms in women can look different and be easier to miss.
As an OBGYN practice, we care about more than reproductive health - your heart health matters at every age.
Pregnancy history, menopause, blood pressure, cholesterol, diabetes, obesity and lifestyle all play role in a woman's cardiovascular risk.
Today is a great reminder to:
- check your blood pressure
- move your body
- know your numbers ( cholesterol, glucose)
- don't ignore symptoms
- schedule your preventative visits

Take care of your heart is a part of taking care of your whole self.
Wear red, spread the word, and encourage the women in your life to put their health first.

Today, on World Cancer Day, we stand with the millions of people whose lives have been touched by cancer.
Almost all of us know someone - a patient, family member, friend, or colleague - who has faced this disease.
You are not alone, and your journey matters.
As an OBGYN practice, we see every day how powerful prevention and early detection can be.
Routine screenings like PAP tests, HPV testing, breast exams, and open conversation about family history truly save lives.
Taking time for your health is one of the most important things you can do for yourself and for people who love you.
Let today be a reminder to
- scheduled recommended screenings
- pay attention to changes in your body
-support those going through treatment
- show compassion - to others and yourself
Together, through awareness, prevention, and support, we can make a difference.

SAFE IN THE SUN ☀️
Pregnancy and Summer Tips

Soaking up the sunshine? After a long winter, here’s how to keep you (and your baby) safe, cool, and comfortable all summer long:

🌞 Choose pregnancy-safe sunscreen:
Look for mineral-based options with zinc oxide or titanium dioxide — gentle and effective.

💧 Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate:
Pregnancy increases your fluid needs. Carry a refillable water bottle and sip often — especially outdoors.

🧢 Protect your skin:
Pregnancy hormones can trigger melasma ("the mask of pregnancy"). Wear a wide-brimmed hat, sunglasses, and seek shade between 10 am – 4 pm.

❄️ Avoid overheating:
Your core body temperature is already higher during pregnancy. Limit outdoor activity during peak heat and take breaks in air conditioning.

🦵 Swelling or varicose veins?
Try elevating your legs after time in the heat and wear supportive shoes or compression socks if needed.

⚠️ Know the signs of heat-related illness:
If you feel dizzy, nauseous, overly tired, or notice swelling that does not go down — seek shade, hydrate, and call your doctor if symptoms persist.

Enjoy summer safely —
Your body is doing something incredible! We’re here to support you every step of the way.

⛱️TRAVELING WHILE PREGNANT?
HERE'S WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW 🏖️
Whether you are planning a babymoon or flying for family visits, a little preparation can go a long way toward keeping your travel experience safe and comfortable.
Here are our OBGYN-recommended travel tips for moms-to-be:

*** Best time to Travel:
The second trimester ( weeks 14-28) is often the most comfortable time to fly - nausea usually improves, and energy levels tend to rise.

*** Hydrate frequently - and don't hold your bladder too long.
Dehydration and full bladder during pregnancy can cause cramping and discomfort.
Please remember to drink water!
Frequent restroom breaks aren't just okay - they are necessary!

*** Keep your blood flowing:
On long flights or drives, move your legs regularly to reduce the risk of swelling and blood clots.
Compression socks can also help with circulation.

*** Skip the Gas-Inducing foods for 24 hours before flying.
Foods like beans, carbonated drinks and cruciferous vegetables ( like broccoli and cabbage) can increase bloating - and gas expands at altitude, which may cause added discomfort.

*** Pack Smart:
Don't forget your prenatal vitamins, healthy snacks, water and copy of your prenatal records.
Comfort is key, so dress in loose, breathable clothing and bring medications you may need.

*** Know Your Destination:
Familiarize yourself with the nearest hospital at your travel location, especially if you are in your third trimester

*** Talk to Your Provider before you go.
Especially important if you are traveling later in pregnancy or have any complications
we are here to help.
