Advocacy in action on Capitol Hill 🇺🇸

Today, APTA New York members met with federal legislators and staff from Senator Gillibrand and Senator Schumer’s offices to push for real changes that impact physical therapists, patients, and the future of care.

We didn’t go just to introduce ourselves. We went with a clear agenda:

➡️ Stop the 2027 Medicare 2.5% cut
➡️ Fix long-term reimbursement with an MEI inflationary update
➡️ Repeal MPPR
➡️ Add PTs to the National Health Service Corps Loan Repayment Program
➡️ Correct the misclassification of the DPT degree
➡️ Address locum tenens and Medicare opt-out issues

And yes, we got face time with Rep. Tim Kennedy too.

This is what it looks like when clinicians and students show up, speak up, and refuse to accept a system that isn’t working.

Huge credit to everyone who took the time to be there and represent New York:

Theresa Marko • Doreen Frank • Tonya Juge • Matthew Glassoff • Antoine Hitti • Francis Reyes • Matthew Zaharenios • Kevin Paulsen • Motaz Ebeido • Julia Boyland • Anah Nizar • Ka-Wah Ng • Gordon Lam

If you’re in this profession and not paying attention to advocacy yet, now’s the time.

Because these decisions are happening with or without you.

The Greater New York District came together for a packed evening of learning, connection, and leadership. From diving into modern approaches to hip arthroplasty to hearing directly from experts in the field, the conversation was thoughtful, practical, and grounded in real patient care.

We also held district elections and had the chance to connect with colleagues across settings, which is always a reminder that this work is better when we do it together.

Shoutout to our speakers, attendees, and everyone who helped make the night happen.

Before you join, take time to watch Decoding Insurance and Payment in New York—our on-demand session that breaks down how the system actually works. You’ll earn CEUs and come into the conversation ready to get more out of it.

This isn’t a lecture. It’s a working conversation about what’s happening now and what needs to change.

Bring your questions. Bring your experience. Let’s figure this out together.

Ever feel like you’re doing everything “right”… and your patient still isn’t progressing?

There’s usually a reason. And it’s not always where you’re looking.

This course dives into the role of visceral fascia as a hidden driver of orthopedic dysfunction—especially when standard interventions fall flat. We’re talking real connections between the visceral system and issues like shoulder impingement, first-rib dysfunction, and persistent cervical/thoracic pain.

Dr. Miho Urisaka breaks it down through clinical reasoning and case-based examples so you can start recognizing what’s often missed.

If you’re ready to move beyond surface-level treatment and sharpen how you assess and treat complex cases, this is worth your time.

Still relying on passive care when your patients need progress?

This course flips the script with a fitness-forward approach to physical therapy—built on clinical reasoning, symptom-guided assessment, and progressive loading that actually moves patients forward.

Learn how to evaluate with intention, track what matters, and build programs that improve capacity, not just reduce symptoms.

If you’ve had patients plateau and thought “something’s missing,” this is it.
