Councilwoman Shannan ‘Lady’ Ighodaro Sponsors Resolution Recognizing International Women’s Day on March 8th in the City of Miami Gardens

MIAMI GARDENS, FL – Women’s History Month is celebrated in March and it’s why Miami Gardens Councilwoman Shannan ‘Lady’ Ighodaro sponsored a resolution proclaiming March 8th International Women’s Day in the City.

The resolution (no. 2022-015-3728) was passed unanimously by the entire council and commemorates the movement for women’s rights.

Councilwoman Ighodaro is a native of the Bahamas. Now serving as Councilwoman she appreciates and understands the need to celebrate all women no matter where they come from.

Ighodaro says, “The impact of women in our community has been far-reaching. In Miami Gardens, the role women played in our formative years has been extensively documented and we continue to thrive as a city with global impact because of the exceptional and phenomenal contributions of our women.”
City of Miami Gardens Councilwoman Shannan "Lady" Ighodaro Commemorates International Women's Day

International Women’s Day is a collective day of global celebration and a call for gender parity. The campaign theme for International Women’s Day 2022 is - Whether deliberate or unconscious, bias makes it difficult for women to move ahead. Knowing that bias exists isn't enough. The resolution hopes to bring awareness that action is still needed to level the playing field.
