Habari gani?! NIA — Purpose 🖤❤️💚

Nia calls us to make our collective vocation the building and development of our community—
to restore its traditional greatness with intention, discipline, and vision.

“Tomorrow belongs to people who prepare for it today.”
— African Proverb

Purpose is not accidental.
It is planned, protected, and practiced—together.

Another African Proverb:
“Wisdom is like a baobab tree; no one individual can embrace it.”

Nia reminds us that our purpose is shared.
When we prepare together, build together, and grow together,
we honor our ancestors and secure the future of those yet to come.

HOODOO NEW YEAR FOLKLORE 🧿✨

In African American Hoodoo tradition, the New Year is not rushed into —
it is prepared for.

🧹 Homes are cleaned before midnight to remove old trouble and crossed conditions.
🛁 Spiritual baths and floor washes clear the body and space for renewal.
🚪 The first person to cross the threshold matters — energy sets the tone.
🫘 Black-eyed peas are eaten for luck and survival.
🥬 Greens are cooked for money and growth.
🌽 Cornbread calls in gold and stability.
🕯 Candles are lit and prayers spoken for protection and prosperity.
Many gather for Watch Night, praying through the night — honoring ancestors who waited for freedom and asking divine protection for the year ahead.
Hoodoo teaches us: ✨ How you enter the year matters
✨ What you eat, clean, and speak becomes prayer
✨ Everyday acts hold spiritual power
Prepare wisely.

These sacred acts are done to prevent future problems, restore balance, and care for what must be tended so a fortunate message can manifest. This is one of the true gifts of Òrúnmìlà to humanity.

Ẹbọ (sacrifice) is protection. It can change a life for good, especially when destiny feels heavy or blocked.

“When spider webs unite, they can tie up a lion.”
— Ethiopian Proverb. UJIMA — Collective Work & Responsibility

Ujima reminds us that we rise together.

It calls us to build and maintain our community collectively—
to make our brother’s and sister’s problems our problems,
and to commit to solving them together, not in isolation.

Ujima is showing up.
Sharing resources.
Holding one another accountable with love.
Understanding that community care is self-care.

When one of us is struggling, we all feel it.
When one of us is supported, we all grow stronger.

This Kwanzaa and beyond, let us practice Ujima in action—not just words.

KUJICHAGULIA — Self-Determination

“If you borrow a man’s legs, you will go where he directs you.”
— African Proverb

Kujichagulia teaches us to define and name ourselves.
To take ownership of our identity, our voice, and our destiny —
instead of letting others decide who we are or where we’re going.

When you walk on your own legs,
you move in alignment with your spirit, your ancestors,
and your true purpose.

This Kwanzaa, choose yourself.
Name yourself.
Direct your own path.
