🍅 It’s National Fresh Tomato Day!

Tomatoes are more than just a topping on your sandwich, they’re packed with nutrients that support your overall health in some powerful ways.

❤️ Heart Health Boost
Tomatoes are rich in lycopene, an antioxidant that has been linked to supporting heart health and helping manage cholesterol levels.

👁️ Good for Your Eyes & Skin
With vitamins A and C, tomatoes can help protect your vision and support healthy, glowing skin.

🥗 How much should you eat?
Adding tomatoes to your meals a few times a week is a great start! Whether sliced fresh, tossed in a salad, or added to your favorite dishes, they’re an easy way to boost nutrition.

⚖️ A few things to watch for
While tomatoes are healthy, some forms, like heavily processed sauces, ketchup, or canned varieties with added sodium and sugar, can take away from their benefits. If you have acid reflux, tomatoes may also trigger symptoms.

🌿 Keep it fresh & simple
Fresh tomatoes with minimal added ingredients give you the most health benefits. Pair them with other whole foods for a balanced, heart-healthy meal!

Your health is built one small choice at a time, and even something as simple as adding fresh tomatoes can make a difference.

April is National Stress Awareness Month 💭

Stress shows up in all kinds of ways, mentally, physically, and emotionally. The good news? Small, consistent habits can make a big difference.

Here are 4 simple ways to help lower stress levels:

🧠 Move your body
Even a short walk can help clear your mind and reduce tension. Regular movement boosts mood and helps your body handle stress better.

😴 Prioritize sleep
Lack of sleep can make stress feel overwhelming. Aim for a consistent sleep routine to give your body and mind time to reset.

🥗 Fuel your body right
What you eat matters. Balanced meals can help stabilize energy levels and improve how your body responds to stress.

📞 Talk it out
Whether it’s a friend, family member, or a healthcare provider, sharing what you’re going through can lighten the load.

💬 Taking care of your stress is part of taking care of your health. If you need support, our behavioral is here for you, because your well-being matters every day.

Many people in our community don’t realize that affordable healthcare may already be available to them.

As a Federally Qualified Health Center, River Valley Primary Care Services offers a Sliding Fee Discount Program to help make healthcare more affordable for individuals and families in our community. 🏥

🤝 What Is the Sliding Fee Discount Program?

The Sliding Fee Discount Program adjusts the cost of certain healthcare services based on household income and family size, using the Federal Poverty Guidelines as a reference. 📊

This means patients who qualify may receive reduced costs for services provided at our clinics. 💲

📋 Who Can Apply?

You may be eligible if you:
✔️ Meet income guidelines based on the Federal Poverty Level
✔️ Complete a Sliding Fee application
✔️ Provide documentation that helps verify household income and family size 📄

Patients do not need to be uninsured to apply. The program is available to eligible patients regardless of insurance status. 🩺

🩺 Why Programs Like This Exist

As a community health center, our mission is to help ensure that people in our region have access to essential healthcare services. 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦

Federally Qualified Health Centers provide care to all patients regardless of their ability to pay, and the Sliding Fee Discount Program is one way we help reduce financial barriers to care. 🤲

📞 Interested in Applying?

Our team can help you learn more about the program and guide you through the application process.

📍 Contact us or ask our front desk about the Sliding Fee Discount Program during your next visit.

Affordable care is part of our commitment to the health of our community. 🏥

March is Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month, and this year the message is more important than ever.

For decades, many people believed Colorectal Cancer was mainly a disease affecting older adults. But that’s changing. Today, colorectal cancer has become the leading cause of cancer death in people under 50 in the United States, and rates among younger adults have been rising for years.

What makes this especially concerning is that many people don’t notice symptoms early on. By the time signs appear, the disease may already be advanced.

🚨 Warning signs to pay attention to can include:
• Blood in the stool
• Ongoing stomach pain or discomfort
• Changes in bowel habits
• Unexplained weight loss or fatigue

The good news? Screening can help prevent colon cancer or catch it early, when it’s most treatable.

👤 Who should get screened?
Adults age 45 and older should talk with their provider about colorectal cancer screening options.

📍 Our providers can help you choose the screening option that’s right for you. A simple conversation could make a life-saving difference.

✔️ If you’re 45 or older, ask your provider about colorectal cancer screening at your next visit.

Early detection saves lives.
Prevention starts with screening. 🩺
