Every year different fad diets come out and are encouraged to help people become healthier - however, these diets do not take into account the practice, performance, and intensity levels that athletes go through on a daily basis. Pair this with puberty and normal growth and development, and high school athletes need more nutrition and calories than one can even imagine!

As a parent, your nutrition needs are different.
Your health goals are different.
Therefore your diet and eating habits should be different!

I have been a little absent from this page recently but have shifted my focus to Instagram! My goal with Instagram is to capture youth athletes and provide them with a resource on how to fuel their (very) active lives. But anyone can follow along!

With a number of cancelled youth sports this year, I thought it would be a great time to do a giveaway!

The giveaway includes a team nutrition presentation and a wheeled cooler! The nutrition presentation will be delivered in person or over Zoom and individualized to your sports and teammates. The cooler is perfect to carry your nutrition favorites, snacks and beverages.

Need a stocking stuffer idea?! What about some chews and gels!

Intra-nutrition is crucial for endurance athletes and can even be a good pre-training option when you are in a hurry. Here are a few of my go-to brands, but you will need to test them out and see what works best for you! Especially if you have a sensitive stomach, you will definitely need to try products out before a big race. It's okay to try them out on shorter runs to test them out.

If you are looking for an all-in-one kitchen tool to help with prep and quick meals, I highly recommend the Ninja Foodi! This has been a great addition to the kitchen and we use it a few times per week! The Ninja Foodi is quite large but with so many features, I don’t need to store multiple appliances. Clean up is always easy and the air fryer has been a game changer for raw vegetables.

Meal prep does not have to be elaborate or take all day on Sunday. Thinking and planning meals ahead of time can help with performance and ensure adequate energy needs for training. Our body needs nutrient-dense meals and snacks for training and recovery. Without proper calories and nutrients we could feel sluggish, tired, and our recovery time be prolonged.

I recently tried Skratch and love it! Compared to other sport drinks, the flavor and consistency is just what I like. With 20g of carbs and 380mg of sodium per scoop, this is the perfect intra- workout nutrition.

When training for over 60-90 minutes, adding a sports drink with carbs and electrolytes can be beneficial to performance. Once our body uses up our carbohydrate stores for energy then we need to consume additional carbs and calories to prevent fatigue and ensure the last couple minutes of a training session or race is just as good as the first!
