Today is Fentanyl Awareness Day.
Knowing just a little about the dangers of Fentanyl can save a life!
Fentanyl is tasteless, odorless, and invisible to the naked eye. Because it is roughly 50 to 100 times more potent than morphine, a lethal dose is small enough to fit on the tip of a pencil.
The Deception: Pills bought online or from a friend are often counterfeit.
The Risk: There is no "quality control" in illegal labs. One pill might be harmless; the next could be fatal.
The Speed: A fentanyl overdose can stop a person’s breathing in minutes.
What You Can Do Today
Awareness is the first step toward prevention. On this Fentanyl Awareness Day, we ask you to:
Talk Openly: Have the difficult conversation with your children and friends. Ensure they know that the only safe pill is one prescribed by a doctor and dispensed by a licensed pharmacist.
Carry Naloxone (Narcan): This life-saving medication can reverse an opioid overdose. It is available at most pharmacies without a personal prescription.
Know the Signs: Slow breathing, blue lips/fingernails, and cold, clammy skin are emergencies. Call 911 immediately.
