JOB OPENING:
Full-Time Pre-Admission Testing Registered Nurse
JOB SUMMARY
We are seeking a compassionate and experienced Registered Nurse (RN) to join our Pre-Admission Testing (PAT) team full time. The ideal candidate will have a solid background in critical care nursing, with proven skills in patient assessment. Strong communication, organization, and teamwork abilities are essential. This role plays a vital part in ensuring the safety, comfort, and overall care of our surgical patients.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Review weekly surgical schedules and update, looking for new cases.
Check emails and follow up on incomplete orders & clearances. File them in appropriate folders until they are ready to be added to the patient chart.
Manage patient medical history through One Medical Passport (OMP). One Medical Passport is our secure online patient portal where patients go to complete their health history prior to surgery. If a patient is unable or unwilling to complete the information on OMP the PAT nurse will assist them.
Collect complete drug history, record allergies, and flag latex allergies in the scheduling system.
Based on pre-operative arrival times, determine when a patient needs to be NPO per anesthesia guidelines.
Communicate with patients via phone, verifying health history and preparing them for the "day of surgery" by providing key details such as arrival times, do's & dont's the day of surgery, etc.
Follow anesthesia guidelines for surgical clearance and accurately assess results of pre-operative screening data and distribute the data to the appropriate clinical staff when needed.
Ensure all required testing is done before surgery to reduce cancellations and delays.
Verify orders and schedules for accuracy; prepare consent forms for patient signatures on surgery day.
Organize and label patient charts for efficient admission and assessment.
Communicate and coordinate with the scheduler, Medical Director, Director of Nursing, and clinical staff.
REQUIREMENTS
ADN with relevant experience; BSN preferred
Current KS RN license required (or multi-state including KS)
A minimum of 2-3 years of nursing experience in a critical care setting, such as OR, ICU, PACU or equivalent is preferred.
Previous PAT or telephonic nursing experience is preferred
Excellent oral and written communication skills required
Must be comfortable speaking with patients on the phone
