Occupational Therapy Awareness Month
Meet Miss Lindsey—one of our incredible occupational therapists!

Miss Lindsey is sweet, kind, and exceptionally knowledgeable. She’s always seeking out the most up‑to‑date professional development so she can provide the very best care for the kids and families she serves.

Difficulties with visual tracking—the ability to follow objects with our eyes is a skill, is often overlooked in children, but Lindsey notes it plays a big role in reading, writing, coordination, and learning. This something she helps a lot of children with.

Catching challenges early really matters, and Miss Lindsey is wonderful at noticing what others might miss.

In addition to being an outstanding OT, Miss Lindsey is also a feeding therapist, supporting children as they build confidence and skills around eating.

Her positivity, knowledge, and genuine care shine through in everything she does, and we are so grateful to have her on our team!

Autism looks different for every child — and that includes boys and girls.

Autism is diagnosed more often in boys, but research shows many girls are missed or diagnosed later because their traits can look different or be easier to hide.

-Girls may mask
-Signs may be quieter
-Support may be delayed

What matters most isn’t the label — it’s understanding, acceptance, and access to support.

If you’ve ever wondered, “Could this be autism?” trust your instincts.

You know your child best.

Speech Therapy + Friendly Competition = Progress That Sticks!

WHAT’S HAPPENING HERE?
Tinsley: Team Tigers & Miss Kim: Team Meerkats, are playing a game of table top soccer. But that’s not all. When we look deeper, they are…

1. Participating in Child AND Clinician Led Therapy: Tinsley chose the activity. She delegated team names to be favorite animals, she picked the chant, and she decided, after winning several matches against Miss Kim, they should play a final match to give Miss Kim a fighting chance. Miss Kim picked the target sounds and set the expectation to practice first then play. When working on speech clarity it is imperative to have the child’s attention to wait, watch, listen, then try.
2. Producing correct speech production of /K/ & /S/
3. Maintaining joint attention during a motivating activity
4. Practicing regulation and impulse control
5. Providing Positive Reinforcement
6. Demonstrating Sportsmanship

What else do you see them working on?

Congrats on the WIN Tins! Better luck next time Miss Kim.

Our Occupational Therapists don’t just see jellybeans as a sweet treat…they see them as FUN-ctional🍬

Miss Amira has started a trend and we are getting on board! Check out some of these OT activities Amira, Kyla, and Lindsey did last week turning jellybeans into powerful tools for learning.

✅ Fine motor skills: picking up jelly beans with fingers or tweezers builds hand strength and coordination
✅ Visual‑motor skills: sorting by color or following simple patterns
✅ Executive functioning: planning, counting, and following multi‑step directions
✅ Self‑regulation & sensory tolerance: practicing waiting, turn‑taking, and flexible thinking
✅ Daily living skills: opening bags, portioning snacks, and making choices
✅ Pre‑writing & writing skills: using jelly beans to form letters, trace shapes, or build words supports letter formation, spacing, and writing motivation

Therapy isn’t about the candy — it’s about the skills kids use every day 💛

That’s the magic of pediatric occupational therapy!

For Occupational Therapy Awareness month we are shining the spotlight on our Director of Occupational & Physical Therapy at New Heights Therapy, Hillary Brunin. 💛

We are so grateful for Hillary. In addition to working with kids and families, Hillary also supervises 7 therapists and plays an instrumental role in the growth and development of our Motor Team.

Her leadership is grounded in professionalism, deep clinical expertise, and genuine connection—building strong, trusting relationships with both families and colleagues every day.

Hillary leads with integrity, collaboration, and heart, and our team is stronger because of it.

Thank you, Hillary, for all you do to support our therapists and the families we serve! Drop a 💙 to show Hillary how amazing she is!

Spring has sprung at New Heights Therapy🌸

Spring is a season of new beginnings.
Just like flowers grow in their own time, every child’s development unfolds at a pace that’s right for them.

Spring reminds us that small steps, consistent support, and patience can lead to meaningful growth. Whether your child is working toward communication, movement, independence, or confidence, progress doesn’t have to be rushed to be celebrated. 🌱
We’re honored to support families as kids grow, learn, and move toward milestones—one nurturing step at a time.

💛 Growth looks different for every child, and every step forward matters.

Autism Acceptance Month

Autism is not one‑size‑fits‑all—and neither is support.

When we talk about autism “levels,” we’re simply describing how much support someone may need right now, not their intelligence, potential, or future.

Every autistic child experiences the world in their own way. Levels can change over time, strengths look different for everyone, and no label can ever define a person. ✨

This month—and every month—we focus on acceptance over awareness:
✔ honoring differences
✔ meeting kids where they are
✔ building environments where autistic individuals feel understood, valued, and supported

Because every child deserves to be accepted for who they are—not asked to be someone else.

💛
