The earliest marked grave at Bumpas Cemetery dates back to 1865 during the Civil War with the first burial taking place in 1863. The land for the cemetery was donated by James H. Stribling can be remembered for his great generosity towards Lawrence County. Not only did he donate the land for the cemetery, but he had built and donated the county's first high school, started the orphan homes on West Point Road, established the David Crockett School, Salem Church of Christ, and many other great works. There are currently over 940 individuals buried at the Bumpas Cemetery. The Bumpas Cemetery is governed by a board of trustees. The trustees include the following:

🧹 Cleanup Day at Bumpas Cemetery is scheduled for Saturday, May 17, 2025.
☔ In case of rain, we'll move to Saturday, May 24, 2025.

🌸 Decoration Day will be held on Sunday, June 1, 2025.

Please make note:

Our Annual Business Meeting will be held on April 21, 2025 at 6:30p at the Gandy Church of Christ Annex Building

The cleanup day will be May 17, 2025, with a rain out day on May 24, 2025.

Decoration Day will be June 1, 2025.
