Getting back into the school rhythm after winter break can be an adjustment for everyone.

A predictable routine helps kids feel secure, focused, and less stressed. Start by re-establishing consistent bedtimes and wake times, aiming for 9–12 hours of sleep depending on age. Reintroduce school-night habits like packing backpacks the night before, limiting screens in the evening, and offering balanced meals.

Even practicing the morning routine a few days early can make the transition smoother.

January is National Bath Safety Month, the perfect time to make sure your home’s water heater is set to a safe temperature. Hot tap water can cause burns in seconds, especially for young children.

✔ What temperature should it be?
Set your water heater to 120°F (49°C) to help prevent scalds.

Fevers can be scary for parents, but they’re often a sign that the body is doing what it’s supposed to do to fight infection. Understanding what causes fevers, how to treat them safely at home, and when to call your pediatrician can help take some of the anxiety out of the situation. At Delaware Valley Pediatric Associates, our pediatric providers are always happy to help guide you. Keep in mind that babies younger than 3 months old should be seen right away if they have a temperature of 100.4°F or higher.

This season, immunization remains the best way for parents to ensure their child is protected. RSV can be very serious for young babies and is the number one reason infants end up in the hospital before their first birthday.

Dr. Joanna Parga-Belinkie recently took to our Instagram stories to answer parents’ frequently asked questions ahead of RSV season. Check out our Instagram story highlights to learn more!

Holidays are fun for kids… but they can also throw everything off.
Different bedtimes, long car rides, relatives they barely know, lots of noise, and new expectations — it’s a lot for a child to manage. And when routines disappear, behavior often changes too.
Here are a few things we see all the time this time of year:
• Kids melting down after being “on” all day
• Struggling with transitions between houses or events
• Getting overwhelmed by big gatherings
• Acting out because they’re tired, overstimulated, or unsure of what’s expected
What helps:
• Give them a quiet break before they hit their limit
• Keep a few parts of their routine predictable (meals, naps, bedtime if possible)
• Let them know what’s coming next — kids do better when they’re prepared
• Use simple language to help them label what they’re feeling (“tired,” “frustrated,” “too loud,” “need space”)
• And remember: behavior is communication, especially during busy weeks
If your child is having a tough time with emotions or behavior around the holidays, call our office. We’re happy to talk it through and offer guidance.

Traveling with kids this week? Even small changes in routine can throw them off.
Different sleep times, long rides, skipped meals — all of these can lead to crankiness, meltdowns, or behavior changes (totally normal).

A few tips that make travel smoother:
• Pack familiar snacks and a few comfort items
• Try to keep sleep routines as close as possible to normal
• Build in extra time for stops, transitions, and unexpected delays
• Bring simple, screen-free activities — coloring books, stickers, puzzles, small travel games, or a favorite storybook

If you need advice on travel safety, motion sickness, or managing your child’s health needs on the go, give us a call or send a portal message. We’re here to help your trip go as smoothly as possible.
