Lightway Recovery Wellness Center for Women is more than a program. It’s part of the heart behind the work we do every day at Navigate Recovery Gwinnett.

As a program of Navigate Recovery, Lightway Recovery extends that mission into long-term, residential care for women seeking a new way forward. It’s a place built by people in recovery, for people in recovery, where healing is approached from every angle: physical, mental, and spiritual.

What stands out about Lightway is the depth of support. This isn’t short-term or surface-level. It’s structured, long-term care with peer support, coaching, and a real focus on helping women rebuild their lives in a sustainable way.

We’re proud to be connected to work like this. Proud to see women find stability, purpose, and community. Proud to be part of a larger effort that’s changing how recovery is approached in Gwinnett and beyond.

Recovery doesn’t happen in isolation. It happens when people have the right support, the right environment, and a real chance to move forward.

That’s what Lightway is about.

Recovery is built on connection, community, and the willingness to keep moving forward.

For Daisey, Recovery Coach at Safe Harbor, recovery began at a young age and has grown into something much bigger than herself. Through sobriety and the support of her community, she found a sense of freedom, hope, and purpose that continues to guide her today.

“Recovery gave me a second chance at life and a reason to give back,” Daisey shared. “I want people to know they are not alone and that there is always a way forward.”

At Safe Harbor, Daisey is passionate about serving others and creating a space where individuals feel supported, understood, and connected. Her work is rooted in making sure no one has to walk the recovery journey alone.

She is currently pursuing her C.A.R.E.S. Certification and working toward a bachelor’s degree in Psychology of Addiction and Recovery, with plans to continue her education and further serve the community.

Stories like Daisey’s are a reminder that recovery is possible and that giving back can be one of the most powerful parts of the journey.

Gwinnett County is making decisions right now about how opioid abatement funds will be used in our community, and your voice can be part of that.

The Gwinnett County Opioid Abatement Advisory Committee is holding a public meeting where these funds and priorities will be discussed. This committee plays a direct role in reviewing and recommending how resources are allocated to address the opioid crisis locally.

This meeting will be open for public comment, which means residents, people in recovery, families, and providers all have the opportunity to speak, share perspectives, and help shape what this looks like moving forward.

Some days in recovery feel strong.
Some days feel like you are just trying to get through the next hour.

Both count.

Recovery is not about having everything figured out or getting everything right.
It is about continuing to show up, even when it is uncomfortable and progress feels slow.

A lot of people do not talk about the in between days. The ones where nothing big happens, but you still choose not to go backwards.

That matters more than people realize.

If today is one of those days, focus on the next right step.
You do not have to do everything. Just do not quit.

Myth: You Have to Hit “Rock Bottom” Before Seeking Help.

Fact: Recovery can start at any point, even before things get worse. The idea that someone has to hit “rock bottom” before seeking help is one of the most damaging myths about recovery. You don’t have to wait until your life is in complete chaos to get the support you need. In fact, early intervention can prevent many of the severe consequences associated with prolonged substance use. If you or a loved one is starting to notice signs of substance use affecting daily life, relationships, or mental health, it’s a good time to explore recovery options. Waiting for things to get worse only increases the risk of further harm.

Recovery is built on connection, community, and the willingness to keep moving forward.

For Cory Liggins, Program Coordinator at Navigate Recovery Gwinnett, recovery is more than a concept. It’s something he is deeply grateful for and something that continues to shape the work he does every day.

“Recovery gave me the chance to rebuild my life and find purpose in helping others,” Cory shared. “Being able to show up each day and help people navigate resources, find support, and take their next steps toward wellness is something I don’t take for granted.”

At Navigate Recovery Gwinnett, Cory helps build connections across the community and works alongside individuals and families as they navigate the recovery journey. His approach is grounded in gratitude for the opportunities recovery has given him and a belief that hope and support can make a real difference.

Stories like Cory’s are a reminder that recovery is possible and that community plays a powerful role in making it happen.

One of the most overlooked recovery resources is Naloxone (Narcan).

Naloxone is a medication that can reverse an opioid overdose and save someone’s life. It’s safe, easy to use, and available in many communities without a prescription.

Carrying Narcan doesn’t mean you expect something bad to happen.
It means you’re prepared to help if it does.

At Navigate Recovery Gwinnett, we work to make naloxone accessible across the community through outreach and our Naloxone vending machine, which provides free overdose reversal kits to the public.

Each box costs about $33 to stock, and we are currently raising funds and accepting donations to help keep the machine filled and available for anyone who may need it.

Sometimes saving a life is as simple as having the right tool at the right moment.

One of the most important things we do at Navigate Recovery Gwinnett is our Lifeline program.

When someone ends up in the emergency department because of an overdose or substance use related crisis, that moment matters. It’s often one of the first opportunities for someone to talk about what’s really going on and what recovery could look like.

Through Lifeline, our peer recovery coaches respond when hospitals call and connect with patients right there in the ER. Our coaches are people with lived experience in recovery, so they’re able to meet people where they are and have real conversations about what comes next.

That might mean helping someone understand treatment options, connecting them with recovery resources, or just being someone who listens during a really difficult moment.

But it doesn’t stop when someone leaves the hospital.

Our team follows up the next day and continues supporting people who want help, making sure they stay connected to resources and recovery support in the community.

Over the years, thousands of peers have been engaged through the Lifeline program through hospital encounters and follow-up support.

It’s a simple idea, but it makes a big difference:
meeting people in a moment of crisis and helping them take the next step toward recovery.

Recovery gets talked about like it’s weakness sometimes, but the truth is it takes a ridiculous amount of strength.

It takes strength to be honest with yourself.
Strength to ask for help.
Strength to start over when things fall apart.

Most people never have to fight the battles people in recovery fight every day.

So yeah… recovery might actually be a superpower.

If you’re in it right now, keep going. People see you, even if it doesn’t feel like it.
