As a holistic pediatric practice supporting children with autism and ADHD, we pay close attention to everyday foods like nut butters and fruit jams because they show up in so many meals and snacks.
Many conventional nut butters and jams are loaded with added sugars, seed oils, artificial flavors, dyes, and preservatives. These ingredients can contribute to gut inflammation, blood sugar spikes, and behavioral dysregulation in sensitive children.
We recommend nut butters made with simple, real ingredients. Just nuts, and sometimes salt. No seed oils, no added sugars, no fillers. These provide healthy fats and protein that support brain development, stable energy, and improved focus.
For fruit jams, we look for options made with real fruit, minimal ingredients, and little to no added sugar. Cleaner jams reduce unnecessary sugar overload and help protect the gut microbiome, which plays a key role in immunity, mood, and attention.
Small swaps matter. When the gut is supported, the brain can function more calmly and efficiently.
If your child struggles with digestive issues, hyperactivity, mood swings, or energy crashes, it may be time to take a deeper look at ingredient quality and gut health.
If you need personalized guidance, functional testing, or a nutrition plan tailored for autism or ADHD, we’re here to support you.
