Medical related eye care (diabetes, cataracts, macular degeneration, eye infections, foreign objects, etc.). Swales opened his optometry practice in 1975. He is a member of the Oklahoma Association of Optometric Physicians and is affiliated with the Vision Source network of independent Optometrists. His awards include the 2005 Oklahoma Optometrist of the Year, the Silver Beaver award from the Black Beaver Council Boy Scouts of America and the Paul Harris Fellow from Rotary International. Past board memberships include Oklahoma Association of Optometric Physicians, Black Beaver Council Boy Scouts of America, Lawton Camp Fire Girls, Lawton Rotary Club and Drug Busters of Oklahoma. In 1994, Dr. Swales founded Primary Vision Care Services, Inc., a privately owned group vision care benefits company. His concern for individuals not receiving eyecare due to financial reasons prompted him to create a vision benefits plan for employers, employees and the general public. The plan provides eye exams when needed with no co-pay and excellent coverage for any eyewear and contact lenses needed. The plan also provides for optometrists to be adequately compensated for services rendered. The PVCS plan is considered to be a Direct Care Plan by the Oklahoma Insurance Department. Dr. Swales chose to be an optometrist due to eye problems as a child. He is passionate about providing quality eye care for his patients and sharing the advantages of the vision benefit plan he authored.
