Oral diseases are the #1 non-communicable diseases in the world. These can include periodontal disease and cavities.

Risk factors for oral diseases include: poor diet, unbalanced pH in the mouth, poor oral home care, deficiency in nutrients like Vitamin K2 and D3, and using products that are doing more harm than good to your mouth.

Recommendations: brush 2x/day with an electric toothbrush, floss or use an interdental cleaning device 1x/day, have a well balanced diet, take K2 and D3 supplements, and start using SuperMouth products!

Julie Luken is apart of our Administration team at our Cherokee office! She has been with our office for 6 years.

Julie’s favorite color is blue and her favorite food is tacos. When she isn’t at work she likes to garden, read, sew, ride her motorcycle, ride her bike, and travel.

She has lived in Cherokee for most of her life. She is married to her husband, Mike. She has 3 children - Tony, Bridget, and Rachel. She has 1 son in law, Michael.

Julie’s favorite part about her job is helping patients who see the importance of a healthy mouth. She likes seeing how much patients appreciate the services of the entire staff!

✨ Staff Spotlight ✨

Larissa Kommes has been in the field of dentistry for over 23 years. She graduated from the University of South Dakota in 2002 with her degree in dental hygiene. She has worked most of her clinical career at Jeneary and Erdmann Integrative Dentistry at our LeMars location. Larissa feels her career has flown by which tells her that she must be having fun! Larissa’s job description has changed over the years as she became a board certified orofacial myologist in December of 2022. Larissa was the first Certified Orofacial Myologist in the state of Iowa and 440th in the world!

Larissa’s favorite color is purple and her favorite food is seafood. In her free time she enjoys traveling, golfing, boating, reading, volunteering, and spending her time with her family and friends.

Larissa lives in Elk Point, SD. She has been married to her husband, Brent, for 22 years. They share 2 children together - Sailor (17 years) and Slade (13 years).

Larissa’s favorite part about her job is helping people feel better. She is incredibly passionate about this field of work and works tirelessly with her patients to help them live a happier and healthier version of their life!
