Although we believe that Aerial Yoga is limitless, it certainly is not random. There is a common misconception that one can do “anything” with the hammock while flying freely in mid-air. While that may be technically true, the movements practiced at FWGYS are highly intentional and grounded in safety, proper fabric placement, and precise technique.
Much of our technique and many of our standard positions originate from our founder, director of teacher trainings, and lead instrcutor's sadhana~ her deep and consistent dedication to Aerial Yoga in every aspect of practice. In addition, our approach is strongly influenced by Hatha Yoga.
For this reason, we emphasize one-pointed focus, the withdrawal of the senses, and breath awareness. We also name aerial asanas after traditional Yoga poses rather than creating arbitrary terminology. In this way, we blend Yoga with Circus Arts seamlessly, creating a practice that is both grounded and elevated~the best of both worlds!
