An Essential Practice—Gratitude

As we step into November, our theme is gratitude—an essential practice both on and off the mat. In yoga, gratitude begins with awareness: noticing the breath, honoring the body’s strength, and embracing the simple gift of showing up. Beyond the mat, it invites us to recognize the beauty in ordinary moments, appreciate our connections, and give thanks for the ways our community supports and uplifts one another.

This month, we’re grateful to expand our offerings and make yoga accessible to everyone with a new series of FREE Chair Yoga Classes—gentle, supportive sessions designed for all levels and abilities. Led by Leah Juhle, these classes focus on movement, connection, and ease in a welcoming, room-temperature environment.

This November, may your practice be a celebration of gratitude: for your body’s wisdom, for your breath, and for the shared warmth of this community. Let each movement and mindful pause remind you that even the smallest moments hold something to be thankful for.

Thank you for showing up—with your presence, your energy, and your heart. We’re endlessly grateful to share this path of movement and mindfulness with you.

See you on the mat,
The AHY Team

Theme: Joy ☺️🌈

As we step into October, our theme is joy—both in practice and in life. In yoga, we often focus on strength, alignment, and discipline. These are important, but just as essential is the practice of joy. Joy does not mean ignoring challenges or pretending everything is light and easy—it means choosing to notice the goodness that is already present, and allowing it to expand. It is the subtle balance between effort and ease, discipline and delight.

On the mat, joy arises in simple moments: the rhythm of breath, the warmth of the body waking up, the quiet space carved out just for you. It might be found in laughter during a wobbly balance, or in the deep calm after savasana. When we allow joy into our practice, it becomes not just about perfecting postures but about savoring the experience of being alive in our bodies. Through joy, practice becomes sustainable, nourishing not only strength and focus, but also lightness and gratitude.

Off the mat, joy shows up in the way we engage with life’s ordinary moments—the beauty of autumn leaves, a shared smile, the comfort of connection. As the season shifts, nature reminds us of joy in transition: the brilliant colors of fall, the crisp air that awakens the senses, the gatherings that bring warmth as the days grow shorter. Joy in daily life does not erase struggle, but it gives us resilience; it teaches us to hold both challenge and delight, knowing that one does not cancel out the other.

To practice joy is an act of significance. It is the willingness to celebrate, to appreciate, to allow delight to matter even in a world that often prioritizes productivity or perfection. It is choosing presence over distraction, wonder over indifference, gratitude over scarcity. Through joy, we discover strength that is not rooted in pressure, but in appreciation for what is.

Ask yourself:

🧘On the mat: Where can you notice joy in your breath, your movement, or the stillness between postures?

🧍In your life: How can you welcome joy into small moments, relationships, and daily rhythms this season?
