We erroneously believe commitment means "I won't leave". In the sense of sickness and health, that is correct. Ask yourself this: "Why would he/she want to leave if I'm growing?"

Commitment is more about growing and less about not leaving. Commitment, as it is defined by most is, "You won't leave me." In there lays a place to neglect or abuse.

Would we neglect or abuse our partner in the dating phase? Why not? Because they might leave.

Introducing the newest therapist at the Center for Family Healing! Among other things, she specializes in Child Therapy. As a marriage and family therapist, she also helps families and couples. Feel free to call or text her at 816-343-4162 or email her at hannah@cfhtherapy.com

Read her biography below:

Hannah J. Sedgwick MS T-LMFT
I developed my passion for helping people through therapy by attending therapy myself. I sought therapy at the age of 19 during an ongoing divorce between my parents. This lead to a severe development of anxiety which made it hard to focus on school and compete at the collegiate level for track and field. The help I received left me with a desire to help people and to let them know that they are not alone in the hard times that life can throw their way.
I specialize in the assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of individuals, couple, and families struggling with family conflict, parenting, child behavioral issues, trauma, and marital distress. I received my undergraduate education through William Jewell College with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology. My graduate education was obtained through Friends University with a Master of Science in Family Therapy under the instruction the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapy’s president elect, Dr. Christopher Habben, PhD, LCMFT. During my graduate program my internship was at the Child Abuse Prevention Association, or CAPA, in Independence, Missouri. At CAPA I worked with children, teens and adults in combinations of individual, couple and family therapy sessions.
